Long waiting times in UK…

Because of long waiting times in UK hospitals due to Covid19, I hit upon the idea of having my bilateral hernia surgery done while on a 2-week holiday in Antalya. After making inquiries through Yasmin, I had a short but comprehensive consultation with an eminent surgeon Prof Alihan Gürkan and my operation was scheduled for a day halfway through my stay in Antalya. It went well with keyhole surgery, I stayed in overnight and was discharged the next day, which gave me 6 days to recover before my flight home to Scotland. Yasmin kept in touch throughout, making sure I had transport to and from the hospital, and a special thanks to Fatma, my mentor and guide at the Memorial Hospital on my day of tests and examinations. I telephoned my surgeon a few days after the operation for advice on removing my plasters and he was most helpful and reassuring about my complete recovery. I was not too fond of the breakfast, but considered it as another form of medicine! My flight home was amazingly comfortable without painkillers, although they were definitely needed for a few days after my operation. In conclusion, I would be happy to have other treatment like this, though in a nice sort of way I hope never to set eyes on the Memorial Hospital again. 🙂

A very positive outcome

A very positive outcome, following my decision to pursue in having dental cosmetic surgery/treatment carried out in Turkey. Excellent advisory skills by Flymedi rep Abud. He was professional, well informed, and followed me up with total attention throughout the whole process. Last but not least, I thank Dr Ahmed Kumsan and his team at Infinity Smiles Dental Clinic for their commitment and professionalism. Highly recommended.

Thank you Flymedi

I was considering several different options, however Abud was by far the most committed and helpful of all the agents I'd been in discussions with. Everything was organised for me and I was guided throughout and if I was feeling apprehensive about anything or had any questions Abud was always on hand to answer my questions and give reassurances. I'm so happy with the results of my operation and I was left overwhelmed by how friendly and supportive everyone was throughout. If you're considering using flymedi then I can honestly say you'll be delighted with the service both before during and after your surgery.

Recommended For Simple Tooth Extraction

Simple tooth extractions are recommended for patients with heavily damaged teeth from trauma or cavities. The procedure is also recommended for patients with large root infections which cannot be safely treated in any other way. The procedure may also be recommended for patients with healthy wisdom teeth which need to be removed.

Overview

What is simple tooth extraction? Simple tooth extraction is one of the most common and possibly earliest types of dentistry procedures in the world. Since the field of dentistry became more advanced, simple tooth extractions are usually the last solution for patients with damaged teeth which cannot be treated by using restoration techniques such as dental bridges, tooth fillings or dental crowns.

Untreated root infections generally cause extensive tooth decay which leaves the tooth structure too weak for any other type of treatment – including root canal treatment. In these situations, the dentist will be forced to perform a simple tooth extraction in order to alleviate any swelling and pain the patient may experience.

In some cases, untreated root infections may affect nearby teeth as well, so a simple extraction of a tooth can also be considered a preventive measure.

Most adults will require a simple wisdom tooth extraction by the age of 30, even if the teeth are healthy.

Preparation

Patients may be required to have a set of dental X rays before undergoing simple tooth extraction. Any intake of anticoagulants, anti-inflammatory pills, and alcohol are prohibited for at least a few days before the procedure. Patients will also have to abstain from smoking and drinking alcohol for a week after the extraction takes place.

How It Is Performed

This procedure is performed under local anesthesia instead of partial or general anesthesia. The dentist will begin by locating the affected tooth and checking the roots of the tooth. He will then start to make it loose by using a tool called an elevator before removing it entirely with the help of a forceps. Since this is a simple outpatient procedure, most patients will be able to go home right afterward.

Recovery

The recovery period after a simple tooth extraction is quite easy to manage. Patients can be prescribed painkillers to soothe any potential pain or discomfort. The total healing period lasts about 2 weeks, but the first few days are more important – patients need to abstain from smoking and drinking alcohol. Eating is also prohibited for several hours after the procedure.

Risks

Simple tooth extractions are very safe for the patient, but risks and complications can appear nonetheless.

  • Infection - tooth extraction infections can develop if the root of the tooth is not removed entirely – in this situation, a different appointment with the dentist will be required.
  • Extraction dry socket – if the patient removes the blood clot from the gum after extracting the tooth a so-called “dry socket” will form, which can be quite painful.
  • Temporary nerve damage – this is the least frequent complication from a simple tooth extraction.

Side Effects

Side effects can include discomfort, light pain, and temporary numbness.

Faq

Simple Tooth Extraction VS Surgical Extraction?

The difference between the two is that with surgical extraction, the dentist will have to incise the patient's gum and possibly remove bone from the area.

What Is The Simple Tooth Extraction Healing Time?

The gum area should be fully healed in around two weeks.

When Will The Bleeding Stop?

The bleeding should stop in around 24 hours after the procedure was performed.
