Cheek augmentation is not recommended for patients with unusual round faces. Patients with very little soft tissue in the cheek should not have this procedure, as implants may become apparent. Persons suffering from any type of infection in the body, especially in the mouth and sinus, should wait before undergoing cheek implant surgery. Certain patients with serious underlying health conditions such as diabetes or heart problems may not be good candidates for cheek augmentation surgery.

How many trips do I need to take abroad to complete the procedure?

Patients need to avoid blood thinners such as aspirin, oral herbal supplements, alcohol, and smoking for at least 2 weeks before the cheek implant surgery. Patients may be advised to take a particular medication or change the dose of an existing medication while preparing for the surgery.

Cheek implant surgery is done under sedation or general anesthesia. Once the anesthesia applies, the cheek implant surgeon creates the incision to insert the implants. If the procedure is combined with eyelid lift surgery, brow lift, facelift, or rhinoplasty, the implants can also be inserted through the incisions already made for these procedures.

If the cheek implant procedure is performed stand-alone, incisions can be created either through the lower eyelids or in the mouth, according to the surgeon’s decision. The surgeon will then create “pockets” in the cheek tissue and proceed to place the implants carefully. Once the desired position is achieved, stitches are set to close the incision site.

As an alternative treatment, dermal fillers can be used instead of implants. The dermal fillers allow the surgeon to gradually enhance the cheek area until the desired result is achieved. It’s important to note that dermal fillers are not a permanent solution and another intervention will be necessary in around 6 to 12 months after the initial surgery.

The cheek implants recovery period lasts around 3 weeks. Most patients return to work in around a week after the procedure. A facial compression garment will be advised and provided to patients in order to speed up the healing process, it needs to be worn for 3 days after the cheek implant surgery.
