Preparation for any penis enlargement surgery will most likely include a series of test. Through them, doctors may determine whether the patients are suitable to undergo a penis enlargement procedure or not. Right before the procedure, patients will be given anesthesia in order not to feel a thing throughout the surgery.

There are a few penis enlargement procedures available today. Among them, some of them focus on the length and others on girth enhancement. To most popular and well-tested techniques of penis enlargement belong:
Penis Enlargement in Length by Cutting the Ligaments – The most common method of penis length enlargement involves cutting the ligament that attaches the penis to the pubic bone and performing a skin graft at the base of the penis to achieve the extra length.

 • Penis Enlargement – Girth Enhancement – girth enhancement traditionally may be achieved by liposuction from the lower abdomen and fat transfer to one’s penis. An alternative method includes grafts of the dermis. The second method is thought to have better, more permanent results. Some studies have reported increases in the circumference of 1.4-4cm through girth enhancement procedure.

Penis Enlargement with an Implant – During the procedure, the surgeons use generally local anesthetic, and the implant is inserted through a small incision in the groin. It is then placed under the skin of the penis. The effects can be seen immediately after the procedure is done, with the penis growing between 1.5 to 2.5 inches. Patients can resume sexual activity just four to six weeks after the procedure. The implant is designed to last for a patient's entire life.

Depending on the type of penis enlargement procedure, the recovery process may take different shapes. However, the characteristic feature of the recovery from male enhancement surgery is a necessity to abstain from sex for several weeks in order to give the penis time to heal properly and avoid risks of rips or infections. Patients can expect some pain and soreness following penis enlargement surgery, but they can be controlled with the help of the painkillers. Penis will be covered in a surgical dressing which will require changing at intervals during the recovery period. When this is removed patients may notice a small scar, but this will be hidden by the new growth of the pubic hair.

Penis enlargement through cuts in ligaments may lead to atypical erections pointing down rather than up. As for girth enhancement through fat transfer, the fat may disappear irregularly and leads to the formation of fat nodules under the skin. Finally, even penis enlargement with implants may lead to some risks such as anesthesia risks, infections, rips in one’s skin as well as breaking of the implant itself.

To common side effects of penis enlargement with a ligament, cut belongs atypical shape of one's erection pointing downwards rather than upwards. However, this condition doesn’t affect one’s sexual abilities in most of the cases.

There is no reliable data so far for all penis enlargement procedures. Doctors performing male enhancement surgery with implants boast about a success rate as high as 95% but it is yet to be confirmed officially.
