Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is a surgical procedure that is performed so as to restore the flow of tears into the nose from the lacrimal sac when the nasolacrimal duct does not function. In simple terms, DCR is a type of surgery done to create a new tear drain between your eyes and nose. There are two types of techniques that can be used to perform the DCR surgery. The most common technique is called External DCR, and it has a 95% success rate. Endoscopic DCR is the name of the other technique, and it has a lower success rate of about 70%.
You may need this surgery if your own tear duct has become blocked.
For people diagnosed with nasolacrimal duct obstruction (NLDO).
The surgery takes 1 hour to complete.
Abnormally fused tissue in the nose
Displacement of the stent placed in the duct

When you decide to have a pterygium surgery, our first step will be to present to you several detailed options of clinics and doctors. After you have chosen your preferred clinic and doctor, we will then set up an operation date and arrange your trip. All the dates are set according to your preferences!
This surgery is usually performed in the morning or afternoon, so we always recommend that you arrive in Turkey a day before the surgery –so that you can have enough time to rest.
When you arrive at the clinic, you will have a face-to-face consultation with your DCR surgery. Part of the discussions will be about your expectations and goals.
Before the surgery commences, your surgeon will conduct physical and blood tests to make sure that you are in a good health state. Every patient is required to undergo medical tests so as to ensure that nothing can hinder the success of the surgery.
To make you feel comfortable during the surgery, your surgeon will give you local anesthesia. If you have Trypanophobia (fear of needles), you should let us know so that we can offer you doctors who can give you anesthesia without using needles.
Since there are two techniques used in performing the DCR surgery, it is up to the surgeon to select the best method patients. Doctors trained in ophthalmic plastic surgery are also responsible for performing the DCR surgery. The details of the surgery may differ from one patient to the other, but here are the general steps that were taken during the External DCR.
The surgery might be performed while you are wide awake. Doctors may give meds to help you feel relaxed and comfortable. Packing materials soaked with anesthetics is then packed inside your nose to make sure you don’t feel anything. In most cases, this packing material may also have medicine to help you bleed less during the procedure. You may also need an injection to numb the area.
Depending on your anxiety levels, sometimes doctors may administer general anesthesia to put you to sleep. Suppose this happens, you will sleep deeply through the surgery and won't remember it afterward.
A small incision is made below or near your eyelid in the space below your eye and beside your nose.
The tissue beneath this incision is left exposed, and the doctor will make a small hole in the bone beneath. This opens a new passageway between the lacrimal sac and your nose.
In some cases, your doctor may place a small tube here, called a stent, to help keep the passage open.
Someone will surgically close your incision with stitches.
How can I prepare for a DCR surgery?
It is recommended that you don’t take any medications that may inhibit blood clotting or cause postoperative bleeding problems such as aspirin and ibuprofen. If you smoke, it is also recommended that you stop smoking at least a month before your surgery and don’t start again until a month afterward.
Is there anything I should avoid taking after the surgery?

Will I have any scars after the surgery?
