Chalazion treatment is a procedure that is designed to treat a small, slow-growing lump or cyst that develops within the eyelid. A chalazion can develop on the upper or lower eyelid, and in some cases, it may disappear without treatment. Not every chalazion is painful, but sometimes it is treated so as to improve the appearance of the eye(s). This condition can either be treated surgically or using a corticosteroid injection. The choice of treatment depends on how severe and persistent chalazion is.

Once you have decided to undergo a chalazion treatment, we will make sure that you have a pleasant trip and your procedure will be customized in a way that minimizes scarring. During the online consultations, expect the following questions:
Have you ever developed any chalazion before?
How painful is the chalazion?
Do you have any medical conditions that we should be aware of?
Are you currently taking any medication?
When you decide to have a chalazion treatment, our first step will be to present to you several detailed options of clinics and doctors. After you have chosen your preferred clinic and doctor, we will then set up an operation date and arrange your trip. All the dates are set according to your preferences!
This surgery is usually performed in the morning or afternoon, so we always recommend that you arrive in Turkey a day before the surgery –so that you can have enough time to rest.
When you arrive at the clinic, you will have a face-to-face consultation with your chalazion treatment. Part of the discussions will be about your expectations and goals.
Before the surgery commences, your surgeon will conduct physical and blood tests to make sure that you are in a good health state. Every patient is required to undergo medical tests so as to ensure that nothing can hinder the success of the surgery.
To make you feel comfortable during the surgery, your surgeon will give you local anesthesia. If you have Trypanophobia (fear of needles), you should let us know so that we can offer you doctors who can give you anesthesia without using needles.
If you have a severe chalazion that has been persistent for more than one to two months, doctors are more likely to recommend surgery. The doctor begins by administering local anesthesia so as to numb the eyelid and make the patient feel comfortable during the surgery.
Once anesthesia kicks in, the surgeon will then make a small incision in the bump. The surgeon will then drain the fluid and remove the material collected within the nodule. In most cases, there are no stitches required after the surgery.
Soon after the surgery, a pressure patch is placed on the patient’s eye and the doctor is more likely to prescribe antibiotic cream or eye drop meds.
This surgery is typically performed from underneath the eyelid, so as to minimize scarring. However, in the event that the chalazion has to be removed from the outside of the eyelid, tiny scarring might occur.
Can I wear make-up on the day of the operation?
No. You should appear without makeup and bring dark sunglasses.
Can I smoke before the operation?
Limit smoking if possible. Smoking leads to increased bleeding during the operation and, as a consequence, to bruising and poorer wound healing.
Is a hospital stay necessary?
The doctor will specifically discuss this question with you during your first consultation.
Will I experience pain during surgery?
No. The operation will be painless for you. This applies to both general anesthesias and local anesthesia.
After the surgery, what can I do to make my eyelids swell as little as possible?
In the first 48 hours, as much as possible should be cooled by means of a cooling face mask. This is delivered to the patient after each operation.
