Chalazion treatment is a procedure that is designed to treat a small, slow-growing lump or cyst that develops within the eyelid. A chalazion can develop on the upper or lower eyelid, and in some cases, it may disappear without treatment. Not every chalazion is painful, but sometimes it is treated so as to improve the appearance of the eye(s). This condition can either be treated surgically or using a corticosteroid injection. The choice of treatment depends on how severe and persistent chalazion is.

What Does Eyelid Ptosis Surgery Involve?

• If you have a severe chalazion that has been persistent for more than one to two months, doctors are more likely to recommend surgery. The doctor begins by administering local anesthesia so as to numb the eyelid and make the patient feel comfortable during the surgery.

• Once anesthesia kicks in, the surgeon will then make a small incision in the bump. The surgeon will then drain the fluid and remove the material collected within the nodule. In most cases, there are no stitches required after the surgery.

• Soon after the surgery, a pressure patch is placed on the patient’s eye and the doctor is more likely to prescribe antibiotic cream or eye drop meds.

• This surgery is typically performed from underneath the eyelid, so as to minimize scarring. However, in the event that the chalazion has to be removed from the outside of the eyelid, tiny scarring might occur.
