How the FlymediScore is calculated

The FlymediScore is one number on a 10-point scale. It comes from patient reviews and from nothing else, and this page says exactly how it is worked out.

  • 10-point scale
  • Patient reviews only

What the number is

One number, from patient reviews and nothing else.

The FlymediScore is the average of the overall ratings that patients gave a clinic, on a 10-point scale. We do not weight it, adjust it or add an editorial opinion to it.

What patients rate

  • Staff
  • Facilities
  • Location
  • Value

Each of the four is shown as its own average of the same reviews. A facilitator arranges your treatment at a partner hospital, so its reviewers never rated a facility of its own, and that one is left out rather than averaged.

Three rating systems, kept apart

The FlymediScore is not the Trustpilot rating and not the number of reviews. We never merge the three into a single figure.

A clinic with no published reviews has no FlymediScore, and we show no score rather than a zero.

How the number is worked out

Four steps, and no editorial weighting anywhere in them.

  1. 1

Every published review carries an overall rating

A patient rates their treatment out of 10 overall, and rates staff, facilities, location and value on the same scale alongside it.

  2. 2

The score is the mean of those overall ratings

We add the overall rating of every published review of the clinic, divide by how many there are, and round the result to one decimal place. Nothing is weighted by recency, by treatment or by anything else.

  3. 3

Each of the four ratings is averaged on its own

The breakdown on a clinic profile is not taken apart from the FlymediScore. Each line is the mean of the reviews that gave that line a rating, so a review that left one blank does not pull it down.

  4. 4

No published reviews means no score

A clinic with no published reviews is shown without a FlymediScore. We do not print a zero and we do not fill the gap with an estimate.

What the FlymediScore is not

  • It is not a verification result: verification is pass or fail and is decided separately
  • It is not moved by what a clinic pays, or by where it sits in a listing
  • It is not a clinical judgement of the medicine, only a summary of what patients reported

Ranking is a separate thing again, and it is described on its own page.
