What booking through Flymedi adds

Clinics and surgeons set their prices and carry out your treatment. In Colombia they quote on request, and your coordinator helps you get a written quote for your case. Flymedi is free for patients.

Why patients choose Colombia

  • Experience with elective surgery. The US State Department notes that Colombia has many elective and cosmetic surgery facilities like those found in the US.
  • Registers you can check. The Ministry of Health publishes registers of licensed providers and of health professionals, and the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgery lists its members.
  • A quote for your case. Clinics quote on request, so compare what each written offer includes rather than a headline figure.

Most verified providers Flymedi lists in Colombia offer plastic surgery or dental treatment, and a few offer weight-loss surgery.

Where in Colombia: cities with listed clinics

No single city suits everyone. Compare surgeons by specialty, registration and aftercare.

  • Bogotá. The capital, where most listed providers are: plastic surgeons, a plastic surgery clinic, dental clinics and a weight-loss surgeon. The State Department notes that Bogotá sits at high altitude, so ask your surgeon whether that affects your surgery or recovery.
  • Medellín. A listed plastic surgeon.
  • Bucaramanga area. A listed hospital in Piedecuesta, in the Santander department.

Is medical tourism in Colombia safe?

The US State Department warns that the quality of care at Colombia's elective and cosmetic surgery facilities varies widely, and that US citizens have suffered serious complications, and some have died, after cosmetic or other elective surgery there. Legal options after malpractice are limited. Choose a registered surgeon who operates in a licensed facility, and don't decide on price alone.

How to check a clinic and surgeon before you book

  1. The clinic or hospital appears in REPS, the Ministry of Health's public register of licensed health providers, with the service you need listed.
  2. Your surgeon appears in ReTHUS, Colombia's register of health professionals, with the specialty for your treatment. For cosmetic surgery, membership of the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgery (SCCP) is a further check.
  3. Surgery takes place where emergency care is available, not in an office-based aesthetic center.
  4. Your treatment plan, the price, what it includes and the payment terms are in writing before you travel.
  5. Your insurance covers complications and medical evacuation, and aftercare and revision terms are in writing. See how we verify doctors and how reviews work on Flymedi.

The US advisory for Colombia is Level 3, Reconsider Travel (issued March 31, 2026), with Level 4, Do Not Travel, for the Arauca, Cauca (excluding Popayán), Valle del Cauca (excluding Cali) and Norte de Santander departments, and within 10 km (5 miles) of the Venezuelan border. Flymedi's listed providers are in Bogotá, Medellín and Piedecuesta, in Santander, a different department from Norte de Santander.

During your stay, use a dispatch service or a ride app rather than street taxis, and never leave a drink unattended: the State Department reports drugging in some regions. Check your own government's current advice and the CDC's guidance on medical tourism before you book.

How to plan your treatment in Colombia

  1. Share your case

Tell us your goals and your medical history, with photos where they help. If you see a doctor at home, ask whether the treatment suits you.
  2. Get a written quote

Clinics in Colombia quote on request. Check what each offer includes: treatment only, or hospital stay, recovery stay, transfers and follow-up visits as well.
  3. Consult before you book

Speak to the surgeon or dentist by video. Check the clinic in REPS and the surgeon in ReTHUS before you commit.
  4. Check entry rules

US, Canadian, UK and EU citizens need no visa for visits of up to 90 days. Complete the free Check-MIG form between 72 hours and one hour before your flight, and carry a return ticket.
  5. Plan your stay

Stay as long as your surgeon recommends, including until you are cleared to fly. Arrange airport and clinic transfers in advance; our pre-op guide covers what to do before you travel.
  6. Plan aftercare at home

Know your medication, when your follow-up checks are and who to contact: your coordinator and the clinic. Tell your own doctor about the treatment when you are home.

Frequently asked questions

How much does treatment in Colombia cost?
It depends on your case and on what the offer includes. Clinics on Flymedi in Colombia quote on request, so your coordinator helps you get a written quote once the clinic has reviewed your case.
How and when do I pay?
You pay a deposit to Flymedi to hold your date, deducted from the clinic's total, and the balance to the clinic before treatment (see payment plans). Colombian providers may ask for payment up front and may not take credit cards, so agree terms in writing.
Do I need a visa for medical treatment in Colombia?
Not for US, Canadian, UK or EU citizens staying up to 90 days: Colombia's entry permit for visa-exempt visitors covers medical treatment. Complete the free Check-MIG form before your flight and carry a return ticket. Other nationalities should check with Colombia's foreign ministry.
How long should I stay in Colombia after my procedure?
As long as your surgeon recommends, including until you are cleared to fly home. A visa-free stay lasts up to 90 days and Migración Colombia can extend it, so check it covers your recovery.
Do surgeons and staff speak English?
The providers listed on Flymedi in Colombia name English among their languages on their cards. The State Department notes that medical staff may speak little or no English, so ask who will speak English with you.
Will my insurance cover treatment in Colombia?
Usually not. Medicare and Medicaid do not work outside the US, and the State Department recommends supplemental insurance that covers medical evacuation. Look for a policy that also covers complications from planned surgery.
What happens if I need help after I get home?
Tell your coordinator, who stays your contact and raises your concern with the clinic. If your surgeon confirms a revision is needed, we arrange it under the clinic's revision policy. For urgent symptoms, go to the emergency department.
Is Flymedi free to use?
Yes, Flymedi is free for patients. Clinics pay us a fee when a patient they treated came through Flymedi, and the price you are quoted is the price the clinic charges. See how Flymedi works.
