Every year, thousands of patients choose to travel internationally for eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, seeking a combination of affordability, expertise, and quality care that may not be readily accessible in their home countries. According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, blepharoplasty consistently ranks among the top five most performed cosmetic procedures worldwide, with medical tourism accounting for a significant portion of these treatments. Patients fly abroad for eyelid surgery to access board-certified surgeons at a fraction of domestic costs, often saving 50-70%, while receiving care in state-of-the-art, internationally accredited facilities. Beyond cost savings, many are drawn to the opportunity to combine their procedure with a rejuvenating recovery experience in a new destination, transforming their medical journey into a holistic wellness retreat.
Figures are ranges, not promises. Suitability needs an individual assessment by a doctor.
Each clinic sets its own price, so check what the price includes before comparing two of them.

It's no surprise that eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is one of the most sought-after cosmetic procedures worldwide. As demand grows, an increasing number of individuals are looking beyond their local clinics and considering eyelid surgery abroad for its combination of quality, affordability, and experience.
If you are considering this transformative procedure, you may be wondering about the benefits, costs, and logistics of traveling for treatment. This guide provides you with a detailed overview of what to expect, helping you make an informed and confident decision about rejuvenating your appearance.
Choosing to have your eyelid surgery in another country can seem like a significant step, but the advantages are compelling. For many, it’s a strategic choice that offers more than just a medical procedure; it’s an opportunity for a better overall experience.
Cost is a major factor for most patients. Eyelid surgery in Turkey is available through Flymedi as an all-inclusive package from €2,700, notably less than comparable procedures in the UK or elsewhere in Western Europe. The exact price depends on the clinic, the surgeon's experience, and the complexity of your procedure (upper, lower or combined). See the clinic listing on this page for current prices and options.
Ensuring your safety and the quality of your care is paramount. When researching clinics for your eyelid surgery abroad, you should take a systematic approach to vet your options.
Several countries have built strong reputations in medical tourism, offering care for cosmetic procedures.
Turkey, particularly Istanbul, has become a global hub for aesthetic surgery. It is renowned for its highly experienced surgeons, modern JCI-accredited hospitals, and incredibly competitive pricing. The country's famous hospitality and rich cultural heritage make it an attractive destination for a comfortable recovery.
For patients in North America, Mexico offers a convenient and affordable option. Cities like Tijuana and Cancun are home to well-established clinics with board-certified surgeons who often have experience training and working in the United States. The proximity makes travel and follow-up care easier to manage.
Thailand combines highly rated medical care with a strong hospitality tradition. Known as the "Land of Smiles," it has internationally accredited hospitals in Bangkok and Phuket that specialize in cosmetic surgery. Patients choose Thailand for its modern facilities, skilled surgeons, and the opportunity to recover in a tranquil setting.
Colombia has earned a strong reputation for excellence in plastic surgery. Surgeons in cities like Bogotá and Medellín are celebrated for their artistry and skill. The country offers high-quality care at competitive prices, attracting patients from around the world who seek natural yet transformative results.
While blepharoplasty can deliver remarkable results, it is not suitable for everyone. A thorough consultation with a surgeon is necessary to determine your eligibility. Generally, you are a good candidate if you:
Conversely, eyelid surgery is not typically recommended if you suffer from conditions such as severe dry eye syndrome, glaucoma, a detached retina, hyperthyroidism, or uncontrolled cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or hypertension.
Your safety should be your top priority. When evaluating clinics, use this checklist to ensure you are making a sound choice:
Visa requirements vary by country and your nationality. However, for a medical visa, you will generally need to prepare the following documents:
Always check the specific requirements of the embassy or consulate of the country you plan to visit well in advance.
At Flymedi, we believe that financial constraints should not prevent you from accessing high-quality medical care. We offer flexible financing options to help you manage the cost of your treatment through convenient monthly installments.
Our payment plans are designed to make your eyelid surgery abroad more accessible. Depending on your country of residence and credit history, you can spread payments over several months or years.
Financing is also available in many other European countries, including Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden, with varying limits. For smaller amounts (up to €1,500), short-term plans of up to 3 months are available in Romania, France, Spain, and Italy.
While package prices can be all-inclusive, it's wise to budget for potential extra expenses. These may include:
The process is straightforward. Once you choose a clinic and receive a treatment plan, you can apply for financing. The application typically involves a credit check to determine your eligibility and interest rate. If approved, the funds are usually paid directly to the clinic, and you will begin making monthly payments to the financing provider according to your agreed-upon schedule.

Doctors I had consulted before told me that I wasn’t a suitable candidate for surgery. Later, my path crossed with Dr. Handan, and everything changed. With her positive energy and the confidence she gives to her patients, I felt completely comfortable going ahead with my upper and lower eyelid surgery. She informed me step by step throughout the procedure, which made the whole experience very reassuring. The operation was painless and very comfortable, and she continued to follow up closely afterward. I’m so glad I chose Dr. Handan… sending my love 🤗

I did upper eyelid surgery here and the whole process felt very professional. The surgeon explained the incision placement and what swelling/bruising would look like. My eyes look more refreshed but still like me. Great aftercare and clean facility.

Came in to ask about eyelid surgery. The surgeon was professional and realistic about outcomes and downtime. They answered questions about scarring and swelling and showed before/after examples. The nurses were kind and the whole process felt private and respectful.

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin, muscle, and fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids to improve their appearance and, in some cases, functionality.
There are three main types: upper eyelid surgery (to correct drooping), lower eyelid surgery (to remove under-eye bags and wrinkles), and combined eyelid surgery (addressing both upper and lower lids simultaneously).
The surgery typically takes between 1 to 3 hours, depending on whether you are having work done on your upper lids, lower lids, or both.
The procedure is performed under anesthesia, so you will not feel any pain during the surgery. Post-operative discomfort is usually mild and can be managed effectively with prescribed painkillers and cold compresses.
The initial recovery period is about 2 weeks. Most swelling and bruising will subside within this time. You can typically return to non-strenuous work in about 7-10 days.
You will notice a significant improvement once the initial swelling and bruising go down. However, the final, refined results will become fully apparent after a few months as the tissues settle completely.
The results are long-lasting. Upper eyelid surgery results can last 8-10 years or more, while the results of lower eyelid surgery are often considered permanent, as the removed fat does not typically return.
Surgeons are skilled at placing incisions within the natural creases of the eyelids (for upper blepharoplasty) or just below the lash line or inside the lower eyelid (for lower blepharoplasty), making scars virtually invisible once healed.
Like any surgery, blepharoplasty has risks, including infection, scarring, asymmetry, and temporary dry eyes. Choosing a qualified, experienced surgeon significantly minimizes these risks.
You should stop smoking at least a month before and after the procedure. You will also need to avoid blood-thinning medications, herbal supplements, and vitamins for about two weeks prior to surgery.
You should wait until your sutures are removed and the incisions are sufficiently healed, which is typically around 7-10 days after the procedure.
You should avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for at least 2-3 weeks to allow your body to heal properly and prevent any complications.
If the surgery is purely for cosmetic reasons, it is unlikely to be covered by insurance. However, if your drooping upper eyelids are obstructing your vision (a condition called ptosis), some or all of the procedure may be covered. It's best to check with your provider.
Most surgeons recommend staying in the destination country for at least 7-10 days post-surgery. This allows for a follow-up appointment, suture removal, and ensures you are fit to travel.
Yes, it is very common to combine blepharoplasty with other facial procedures like a facelift, brow lift, or laser skin resurfacing for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
