Plastic surgery after weight loss in Turkey

After a large weight loss, the question is rarely which operation you want. It is which of several operations you need, in what order, and whether they can safely be combined. This page is the map: what each procedure does, how surgeons sequence them, and what has to be true about your health before any of them is sensible.

Body contouring after weight loss is reconstructive in character even when it is paid for privately. The skin does not shrink back, exercise does not remove it, and no non-surgical device meaningfully treats a large excess.

Which operation treats which area

  • Abdomen only

    A tummy tuck, if the loose skin stops at the front. It is the shortest recovery of the group and the usual starting point.

  • Right around the trunk

    A body lift, where the incision continues around the back and hips and the buttocks and outer thighs are lifted with it.

  • Upper arms, breasts, thighs

    An arm lift, a breast lift and a thigh lift respectively. Each is a separate operation with its own scar and its own recovery.

  • The face and neck

    Large weight loss ages the face, and a neck lift or facelift is sometimes part of the plan. It is usually left until the body work is done.

Sequencing, and why it matters

Most people need more than one operation, and doing them in the wrong order or all at once is where this goes wrong. Surgeons stage for safety, not to sell more trips.

  • Trunk first, usually. The abdomen or the full circumference is normally the first stage, because it is the largest single change and it affects how everything else sits.
  • Then arms, breasts or thighs. Grouped by what can be done in one anaesthetic without making the operation dangerously long.
  • Face and neck last. Once weight and body shape have settled.
  • Months between stages, not weeks. Healing has to be complete before the next long operation, and your nutrition has to keep up.

What has to be true before you book

  • Weight stable for months. Operating during ongoing loss gives skin that loosens again, and operating during regain puts closures under tension.
  • Well clear of bariatric surgery. Surgeons want nutrition and weight settled before long contouring operations.
  • Bloods checked and corrected. Protein, iron, the B vitamins and vitamin D. This is the single most overlooked step and it directly affects wound healing.
  • Not smoking. The biggest avoidable cause of wound breakdown along long closures.
  • Realistic about scars. Every operation in this group trades loose skin for a permanent scar. If the scars are not acceptable, the operations are not either.

What drives the cost in Turkey

  • How many procedures and how they are staged. One trip with a combined operation, or two trips, changes the arithmetic entirely.
  • Hospital nights. These are longer stays than most cosmetic surgery, and the nightly rate is what drives the total when things run long.
  • Garments and drain care. Needed for weeks after each stage.
  • What a longer stay costs. Ask the nightly rate before you travel rather than after a drain keeps producing.

Preparing properly

  • Send standing photographs from front, back and both sides. Contouring is judged in the round and a front-only set is not enough to plan from.
  • Bring your bariatric records. Which operation, when, and your weight history. The surgeon needs it and a good one will ask.
  • Arrange help at home. No lifting for weeks, and that includes luggage and children.
  • Settle aftercare before you fly. Most of the healing happens at home; know who removes stitches and who to call.

How many operations will I need after major weight loss?
It depends entirely on where the loose skin is. Many people need two or three, staged over a year or more. An examination decides it, and a surgeon should show you what each stage would and would not change.
Can everything be done in one trip?
Sometimes two procedures can be combined safely. Doing everything at once makes a very long operation with materially higher risk, and most careful surgeons stage it.
How long should I wait after bariatric surgery?
Long enough for your weight to be stable and your nutrition to be corrected. Your bariatric team and the plastic surgeon should agree on the timing rather than you deciding alone.
Will the NHS pay for any of it?
Occasionally, for excess skin causing recurrent infection or ulceration, with stable weight and a local funding policy that allows it. Ask your GP for the policy in writing.
Are the scars permanent?
Yes. Every operation in this group removes skin and leaves a scar in exchange. They fade over a year or more but they do not go away.
What if I lose more weight afterwards?
Further loss can loosen the result, which is why surgeons ask for stable weight first.
How long is the recovery for each stage?
Weeks to be back at a desk, months for swelling to settle, and up to a year or more for scars to mature. Plan each stage on that basis rather than on the shortest figure you are quoted.
Do I need vitamin supplements before surgery?
If you have had bariatric surgery, very likely. Deficiencies are common and they slow healing. Have bloods done before you travel.
