Breast lift abroad

A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises and reshapes breasts that have begun to sag, moving the nipple higher and removing loose skin, without changing the cup size on its own. Having it done abroad widens your choice of breast surgeons and accredited hospitals, and Flymedi helps you compare clinics, surgeons and what each quote includes in one place.

Breast lift abroad

A breast lift is as much about the surgeon and the plan as the operation itself. Travelling for surgery widens your choice of experienced breast surgeons and accredited hospitals, and often gives you a calmer place to recover, but it also means doing your homework before you book.

This guide covers what the operation involves, the techniques surgeons use, where patients travel, what shapes the price, who it suits and how to check a clinic is safe. Use it alongside the clinic list above, where you can compare facilities and get matched to one that fits your goals.

Benefits of getting a breast lift abroad

Choosing to travel for your breast lift can bring real advantages, as long as you weigh them against the practical side of having surgery away from home.

  • Often a lower cost. Surgeon and hospital fees in the main destinations are often lower than private prices in the UK, US or Western Europe. Compare the whole quote, including flights and the days you stay before flying home, not just the headline price.
  • A wider choice of surgeons. You can shortlist breast surgeons in several countries and pick one whose portfolio matches the result you want.
  • Accredited hospitals and modern facilities. Reputable clinics work to international standards for safety, sterilisation and aftercare, and many hold recognised accreditation.
  • Private, unhurried recovery. Healing away from daily life lets you rest properly. Ask in writing whether your quote covers the hotel, transfers and follow-up checks; a Treatment only price does not.
  • Everything coordinated in one place. A good medical-travel partner lines up the consultation, surgery, accommodation and post-operative checks, and stays reachable after you fly home.

What a breast lift involves and which technique suits you

A breast lift removes excess skin and raises the remaining tissue and nipple to a higher, firmer position. The incision pattern depends on how much lift you need, and a surgeon may combine a lift with implants for more fullness, or with a breast reduction if size is also a concern. Your surgeon also chooses how to reshape the tissue underneath, for example with a central pedicle breast lift.

Donut (periareolar) lift

A circular incision around the areola, suited to mild sagging and leaving the least scarring.

Lollipop (vertical) lift

Adds a vertical incision from the areola to the crease, for moderate sagging and a firmer reshape.

Anchor (inverted-T) lift

The most complete pattern, adding a horizontal incision in the crease, used for more pronounced sagging.

Lift after weight loss or pregnancy

Tailored to skin that has stretched and lost volume, often removing more skin and repositioning the tissue.

Destinations for a breast lift abroad

A handful of countries have built a strong reputation for breast surgery, each with its own draw. Where you go often comes down to travel time, budget and the surgeons you shortlist.

Turkey

A major hub for aesthetic surgery, with experienced breast surgeons, modern private hospitals and packages that bundle surgery, hotel and transfers. Read our guide to breast lift in Turkey.

Mexico

Convenient for patients from the US and Canada, with skilled surgeons in cities such as Tijuana, Guadalajara and Cancun. Read our guide to breast lift in Mexico.

Thailand

Long established in medical travel, with internationally accredited hospitals in Bangkok and Phuket and strong aftercare. Read our guide to breast lift in Thailand.

Patients also travel to Hungary, Poland, Spain and Colombia, and you can narrow the clinic list above by destination. The right choice is the one where you find a qualified surgeon and an accredited hospital you trust, not simply the lowest quote.

Price comparison for a breast lift: Turkey vs Mexico vs Thailand

There is no single price for a breast lift, because the total depends on the technique, whether implants are added and what the clinic includes. Turkey usually sits at the lower end, Mexico is convenient for North American patients, and Thailand pairs competitive pricing with established hospitals. Rather than chase a headline figure, compare what each package includes. You can see current package prices and get a personalised quote through the clinic list above. For a country-by-country overview, see breast lift costs around the world.

  • The technique and whether implants are added. An anchor lift takes longer in theatre than a donut lift, and adding an implant is more involved again.
  • The surgeon's experience. A sought-after surgeon with a long track record usually charges more, and that experience is worth paying for.
  • The city and the hospital. Prices vary between countries, and between clinics in the same city, depending on the facility and its accreditation.
  • What the package includes. An all-inclusive package folds in the hospital stay, anaesthetist, medication, transfers and hotel; a treatment-only price does not.
  • Aftercare and the support garment. Some quotes cover post-operative checks and the surgical bra, while others treat them as extras.

Who is a good candidate for a breast lift

A breast lift works well when your breasts have lost firmness and sit lower than you would like, your weight is stable and your health is up to surgery. A good surgeon will tell you honestly whether a lift alone is enough or whether implants or a reduction would serve you better.

  • Your breasts sag or the nipples point downward. A lift raises the tissue and nipple and removes loose skin, which is different from adding volume with implants.
  • You are past pregnancy and breastfeeding, or your weight is stable. Results last longer once your body and breast size have settled, so many patients wait until they are not planning more children.
  • You are in good general health. Being a non-smoker, or willing to stop well before and after surgery, gives your body a much better chance to heal.
  • Your expectations are realistic. A lift reshapes and raises rather than greatly enlarging, and scars fade but do not disappear.

It may not be the right choice if you are planning a pregnancy soon, if you have a condition that makes surgery risky, or if what you really want is more size, where a lift with implants may suit you better. Your surgeon will talk through the trade-offs at your consultation.

Risks of a breast lift and how complications are handled

No surgery is free of risk. These are the risks the American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists for a breast lift, and your surgeon should go through each of them with you before you book.

  • Bleeding, or a collection of blood under the skin (haematoma).
  • Infection.
  • Poor or slow healing of the incisions.
  • Uneven breasts, or irregularities in contour and shape.
  • Changes in nipple or breast sensation, which may be temporary or permanent.
  • Fluid collecting under the skin, or fatty tissue that dies and hardens (fat necrosis).
  • Blood clots in the legs or lungs, heart and lung complications, and the risks of anaesthesia.
  • Partial or total loss of the nipple and areola.
  • The possibility of further surgery to correct the result.

Agree in writing how complications are handled. Before you book, ask the clinic what happens if there are complications, where your follow-up appointments will be, and what a correction would cost and who pays. A clinic abroad may have no doctor in your home country you can go to if a problem appears after you return.

Wait until you are cleared to fly. Air travel soon after major surgery raises the risk of a blood clot, and the NHS advises against flying for several days after breast surgery. Stay until your surgeon clears you to fly, and take the operation note home so any doctor who sees you later knows what was done.

How to find an internationally accredited hospital for a breast lift

Your safety rests on the clinic and the surgeon, so check both before you commit. A few steps will tell you most of what you need to know.

  1. Look for international accreditation

Recognised bodies such as Joint Commission International hold hospitals to strict safety standards, so accreditation is a good sign the facility takes quality seriously.
  2. Verify the surgeon's credentials

Ask for the surgeon's specialist registration in plastic surgery in their own country and check it with the body that issued it. Ask how often breast surgery is part of their practice, not an occasional add-on.
  3. Read verified patient reviews

Look for reviews tied to real, completed treatments rather than anonymous ratings, and note how the clinic handled anything that went wrong.
  4. Study before and after photos

A surgeon's own gallery shows their style and consistency. Look for results on bodies similar to yours.
  5. Check how they communicate

You should be able to speak with the clinic in a language you understand, and get clear answers about the plan, the risks and the aftercare.

Recovery after a breast lift, and how long results last

Recovery is gradual, and most of the visible swelling settles well before the final shape appears. Planning your trip around the healing stages makes the whole experience easier.

  1. The first few days

You wear a supportive surgical bra and rest, with some swelling and tightness. Most patients stay near the clinic for a check.
  2. The first couple of weeks

Stitches are checked or removed and many people return to desk work. You keep wearing the support bra and avoid lifting.
  3. The following weeks

You ease back into activity while avoiding strenuous exercise and heavy lifting until the surgeon agrees.
  4. The lasting result

Swelling settles over the next few months and scars fade over the following year. A lift lasts for years, though ageing, gravity and weight changes gradually take their toll.

How Flymedi ranks these clinics

Flymedi scores clinics and sets their order on this page; the default order is not the same as sorting by FlymediScore, and the Sort menu above the list orders clinics by score, reviews or price. See how ranking works for the methodology.

Clinics on this page are scored and ordered by Flymedi, not by an independent regulator. Flymedi is a marketplace and the listed clinics have a commercial relationship with Flymedi, so the ordering is not a neutral clinical ranking. Op. I had been thinking about having a breast lift surgery for a long time, but between my fears and the search for the right doctor, it took a while before I finally found Dr. Handan. I’m truly very happy that I chose her. Before meeting her, I had consultations with a few other doctors, but Dr. Handan’s sincerity and genuine care stood out immediately. What impressed me the most was her honesty—she clearly explained which procedures were necessary and openly told me about additional treatments that were unnecessary. That honesty was one of the biggest reasons I decided to go with her. I can’t say there was absolutely no pain after the surgery, but it was the minimum level of discomfort that you would normally expect. By the third day, I had almost completely recovered. I wholeheartedly recommend her to everyone.

After two pregnancies I decided on a breast lift, and IEC made me feel very comfortable from day one. The nurses were so kind, always checking in on me. Recovery was a bit tiring the first few days but got better quickly. The results look natural, not overdone at all

I could go on and on for days about my experience at Wansiri hospital. I’m from America, and for years I’ve always wanted a breast reduction/lift. However never was comfortable with the suggestion of surgeons back home. After being in Thailand for almost a year, I muster up the courage to finally start my journey towards getting the surgery. I’ve always desired. From the moment I decided to book with Wansiri Hospital, everything was just so smooth. The staff at medical departures that helped me navigate booking, all the staff at Wansiri hospital treated me with the upmost care. Especially since I came to get my surgery alone without any supports. The facility looks like a five star resort, the staff are extremely hospitable (Especially Bon!! Truly was such a great help and joy to meet) and really put patient care first. My surgeon Dr. Kasemsak IS AMAZING! His work truly speaks for itself. I’m only 2 weeks PO and I’m loving my results. I was so nervous, but truthfully Surgery was a breeze, my nurses were so sweet, and i was discharged with very minimal pain! I was well taken care of and supported. I HIGHLY recommended Wansiri hospital, if i ever desire surgery in the future I’ll definitely be coming back! THANK YOU AGAIN!

Frequently asked questions

Answers from the medical content team, reviewed by the medical reviewer named on this page.

What is the difference between a breast lift and breast implants?
A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises and firms sagging breasts and repositions the nipple, but it does not add volume on its own. Implants add fullness and size. Many patients who want both a higher position and more upper fullness have a lift with implants in a single operation, and your surgeon will advise which suits your goals.
Will a breast lift affect breastfeeding?
Many people can still breastfeed after a lift, but it depends on the technique and how the milk ducts and nipple are handled. If you plan to have children and breastfeed, tell your surgeon, who may suggest waiting or choosing a technique that preserves as much function as possible.
Will I lose nipple sensation?
Some change in nipple sensation is common after a lift and usually settles over the following months, though a small number of people notice a lasting change. A careful technique and an experienced surgeon reduce the risk, and your surgeon will explain what to expect for your case.
How visible will the scars be?
Scars follow the incision pattern, around the areola and sometimes down to the crease, and they fade over time. Where they fall depends on how much lift you need, and following the aftercare helps them settle. Your surgeon can show you the likely pattern before you decide.
How long does recovery from a breast lift take?
Most people take the first week or two quietly, return to desk work after that and wear a support bra for several weeks. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting wait longer, and the final shape settles over the following months. Your surgeon will give you a timeline based on the technique used.
Can I combine a breast lift with other procedures?
A lift is often combined with implants for added fullness, with a reduction if size is also a concern, or with body procedures as part of a wider makeover. Combining operations can mean a single recovery, and whether it is sensible depends on your health and the total time under anaesthetic.
How do I choose which country to have my breast lift in?
Start with the surgeon rather than the destination. Shortlist qualified breast surgeons at accredited hospitals, then weigh travel time, language support, the total package cost and how comfortable you feel with the clinic. A good medical-travel partner can match you to clinics that fit your goals and budget.
How long do the results of a breast lift last?
A lift lasts for years, and staying at a stable weight and wearing good support helps. Over time, ageing, gravity, pregnancy and weight changes gradually affect the shape, so the results are long-lasting rather than permanent.
