Hair transplant for women in Turkey

A hair transplant moves follicles from the back of the scalp to where hair has thinned. It does not create new hair, it redistributes what you already have, and that single fact decides whether it is the right operation for a woman.

Female hair loss is usually diffuse rather than patterned, which means the donor area is often thinning too. Many women who ask about a transplant are better served by finding and treating the cause first. This page covers who is a candidate, who is not, and what the surgery costs in Turkey.

A transplant performed while an untreated cause is still active wastes the grafts and the money. Any surgeon worth consulting will want this done first, and will say so.

• Blood tests. Ferritin and iron studies, thyroid function, and where the pattern suggests it, androgen levels. Deficiency is common and correctable.
• A dermatologist's assessment. Scarring alopecias such as frontal fibrosing alopecia and lichen planopilaris must be excluded, because transplanting into active scarring fails.
• Time, if the loss is recent. Shedding after childbirth, illness, surgery or severe stress usually recovers on its own over months. Operating in that window is a mistake.
• Medical treatment first. Topical minoxidil and other prescribed treatments are the usual first line, and they work on hair a transplant cannot help: the fine, miniaturised hair spread across the scalp.

The commonest requests are not the same as for men. Lowering or reshaping a high hairline, filling the temples, adding density along a widened parting, and restoring the edges after traction loss account for most female cases.    Assessment and design

   The hairline is drawn with you sitting upright and awake, and it should suit your face rather than a template. Female hairlines are rounded, not straight.

   Donor area preparation

   Local anaesthetic, then follicles are extracted one at a time from the back and sides. In unshaven work, only a limited zone is trimmed.

   Sorting the grafts

   Follicles come in natural groups. Single-hair units go at the front edge and larger groups behind them, which is what makes a hairline look natural.

   Placement

   Channels are opened at the angle the existing hair grows, then grafts are placed, or implanted directly with a pen depending on the technique.

   Same-day discharge

   It is a long day rather than a hospital stay. You go back to the hotel with dressings and instructions.

• How many grafts. The main factor. A temple and hairline case needs far fewer than a widened parting across the crown.
• Shaved or unshaven. Unshaven work takes longer and is priced higher. Confirm which the quote assumes.
• The technique. Direct implantation is usually quoted above standard extraction and placement.
• What the package covers. Medication, washing sessions, follow-up and accommodation are sometimes bundled and sometimes not.
