Vaginoplasty in Turkey

Vaginoplasty is surgery that narrows the vaginal canal and repairs the muscles and tissue that support it, most often after childbirth. It is done for laxity that has not improved with pelvic floor training, and it is sometimes combined with perineoplasty, which repairs the area between the vaginal opening and the anus.

This page covers vaginoplasty in that sense. Gender-affirming vaginoplasty, which creates a vagina as part of gender confirmation surgery, is a different operation with different planning and different risks.

• Vaginoplasty

  Narrows the vaginal canal and repairs the supporting muscle and tissue. This is a surgical operation performed in an operating theatre.

• Perineoplasty

  Repairs and reshapes the perineum, the area between the vaginal opening and the anus, often after tearing or an episiotomy during childbirth. Frequently combined with vaginoplasty.

• Labiaplasty

  Reshapes the labia. It is about appearance and comfort at the entrance, not about the canal, and it is a different operation.

• Vaginal rejuvenation

  A marketing umbrella rather than a defined procedure. It can mean surgery, or laser, or radiofrequency, or injections. Ask exactly which one is being proposed before agreeing to anything.

   Assessment

   A gynaecological examination, a history that covers births, tears and episiotomies, and direct questions about urinary symptoms and prolapse. Photographs are not an assessment.

   Planning what is repaired

   Vaginoplasty alone, perineoplasty alone, or both together are different operations. What is being done should be named in writing before you travel.

   Anaesthetic

   Usually general or regional anaesthetic. This is theatre surgery, not an office procedure.

   The repair

   Excess vaginal lining is removed and the underlying muscle layers are brought together and stitched, tightening the canal. If the perineum is being repaired, that is reconstructed at the same time.

   Closing

   Dissolvable stitches are usual. The degree of narrowing is a judgement made in theatre, and over-tightening is the error that causes long-term pain.

   The first days

   Soreness, swelling and some discharge. Most people go home the same day or after one night.

• Which operation, and whether they are combined. Vaginoplasty with perineoplasty is more work than either alone.
• Anaesthetic and hospital time. General or regional anaesthetic and theatre time are a real part of the cost.
• Whether labiaplasty is added. Often discussed at the same consultation and priced separately.
• Surgeon and facility. A gynaecologist working in a full hospital theatre is priced differently from an office-based service.
• What the package covers. Nights, transfers, medication, follow-up, and what happens if you need to stay longer.

• Ask what they would do if the answer is no surgery. A clinic that has ever told a patient to do pelvic floor training instead is a clinic that assesses.
• Ask how they decide how much to tighten. There should be a considered answer. Over-tightening is the mistake that causes pain for years.
• Ask about their complication and revision rates. Especially pain with sex.
• Ask whether you will be examined before the day of surgery. Arriving, being examined and operating on the same day leaves no room to change the plan.
• Ask what happens if they find prolapse. A clinic that would stop and refer you is safer than one that proceeds anyway.
