Labiaplasty in Turkey

Labiaplasty reduces or reshapes the labia minora, either by trimming the free edge or by removing a wedge and keeping the natural border. Most patients come with a physical symptom rather than an aesthetic one, and the technique that fits depends on your own anatomy. Flymedi lets you compare accredited hospitals and surgeons in Turkey.

Labiaplasty in Turkey

Labiaplasty reduces or reshapes the labia minora, the inner folds of the vulva. The surgeon removes a measured amount of tissue and closes the edge, either by trimming along the free border or by taking a wedge from the middle and joining the remaining edges.

Most women who have it describe a physical problem rather than an aesthetic one: tissue that catches in underwear, hurts on a bike or during exercise, gets in the way during sex, or is uncomfortable in fitted clothes. Appearance matters too, and there is nothing wrong with saying so. What matters clinically is that labia vary enormously between healthy women, and that a surgeon who tells you your anatomy is abnormal is telling you something that is not true.

Trim or wedge, and why it matters

  • The trim technique

The excess is removed along the free edge and the border is sewn. It is the most common approach, it handles a large reduction and dark or uneven edges, and it replaces the natural border with a surgical line.
  • The wedge technique

A V shaped section is taken from the middle and the edges are joined, so the natural border and its colour are preserved. It suits a moderate reduction and leaves a scar that runs across rather than along the edge.
  • Neither is universally better

The right choice depends on how much tissue there is, where it is, the colour of the border and whether the clitoral hood is involved. A surgeon who offers only one technique is choosing for their practice, not for you.
  • The hood is a separate decision

Excess skin over the clitoris is treated separately and is a delicate area. Ask specifically whether it is included, because a labial reduction alone can make the hood look more prominent.

Who it suits

  • Physical symptoms. Catching, chafing, pain on cycling or riding, discomfort during intercourse, difficulty with hygiene. These are the reasons with the clearest benefit.
  • Asymmetry that bothers you. One side longer than the other is extremely common and can be evened without reducing both.
  • Changes after childbirth or weight loss. Tissue that has stretched or thinned. Surgeons usually want you past childbearing plans and settled at a stable weight.
  • Not for anyone under eighteen for appearance alone. Development continues through adolescence, and reputable surgeons decline. Take a clinic that agrees to it as a warning about everything else they do.
  • Not while pregnant or breastfeeding, or with an untreated infection. And not while expectations are set by images that are edited, filtered or surgically altered.

Does the NHS pay for labiaplasty

In England, labiaplasty is not routinely funded for appearance. Where it is considered, it is on the basis of a documented physical problem, assessed by a specialist, and commissioning policies differ between local areas. Referral typically starts with a GP and can involve a wait.

It is not offered on the NHS to under-eighteens for cosmetic reasons at all. If you are told otherwise by a clinic abroad, treat that as a reason to look elsewhere. Paying for the operation privately overseas does not entitle you to reimbursement afterwards, and treatment you need on your return is a separate matter that you should ask about before you travel.

What the procedure involves

  1. Consultation and examination

The surgeon examines you, discusses which technique fits your anatomy, marks what will be removed and what will be left, and asks what is prompting the request. A consultation that skips the examination has not planned the operation.
  2. Anaesthetic

Often local anaesthetic with sedation, sometimes general. It is usually a day case.
  3. The reduction

Tissue is removed by the agreed technique, keeping the blood supply and the nerve supply to the edge intact. Removing too little can be revised. Removing too much cannot.
  4. Closure

Fine absorbable sutures. They dissolve over weeks and do not need to be removed, which matters when you are travelling home.
  5. Aftercare instructions

Washing, dressing, what to wear, when to sit for long periods and when you may fly. Get these in writing before you leave the clinic.

Recovery

  • The first days. Swelling and soreness are at their worst, and the area looks far more swollen than the result will be. Ice, loose clothing and rest are the instructions.
  • The first two weeks. Sitting, walking and cycling are uncomfortable. Most people take time off, and desk work is easier than anything on your feet.
  • Weeks four to six. Sutures have usually dissolved. Exercise, swimming, baths, tampons and intercourse all wait until your surgeon clears them, which is commonly around six weeks.
  • Months for the result. Swelling settles slowly and scars soften over months. Judging the shape or the symmetry before then is judging swelling, and it is the most common reason people ask about a revision too early.

Having it in Turkey

  • Take the consultation with the operating surgeon. Not a coordinator. This operation is planned on examination, so a video consultation has limits that should be acknowledged.
  • Ask about the flight. Sitting for hours soon after surgery is uncomfortable and puts pressure on the wound. Ask the surgeon when they want you to travel and keep the return changeable.
  • Ask who handles a problem at home. Wound separation and infection tend to appear after you land. Find out who reviews photographs and who answers.
  • Ask about privacy. Which records exist, who sees them, and how consultations and any photographs are stored. You are entitled to a clear answer.
  • Confirm the surgeon's specialty. Gynaecologists and plastic surgeons both perform it. What matters is how much of this specific work they do.

What drives the price in Turkey

  • The technique and the extent. A wedge reduction, a trim, one side or both, and whether the clitoral hood is included.
  • The anaesthetic. Local with sedation costs less than general anaesthetic.
  • Anything combined. Other procedures done at the same time change the theatre time and should be quoted as their own lines.
  • The surgeon. Experience in this specific operation is priced, and it is the part worth paying for.
  • What the package covers. Nights, transfers, medication, garments and the review before you fly, plus what is excluded.

The clinic list on this page shows the current price at each hospital with a label saying what it covers. For staged payment, see the payment plans page. Labiaplasty treats the outer folds; if what you are asking about is the vaginal canal itself, that is a different operation and the vaginoplasty page covers it.

Choosing a surgeon

  • Ask which techniques they perform. Someone who does both trim and wedge can choose. Someone who does one will fit you to it.
  • Ask how often they do this operation. Specifically this one, not gynaecological or plastic surgery in general.
  • Ask to see healed results at six months. Photographs at two weeks show swelling, and swelling flatters.
  • Ask what they would decline. A surgeon who has turned patients away, including for expectations rather than anatomy, is exercising judgement.
  • Ask how a revision is handled. Who pays, how long you would wait, and whether you would need to travel back.

Frequently asked questions

Answers from the medical content team, reviewed by the medical reviewer named on this page.

What is labiaplasty?
It is surgery to reduce or reshape the labia minora, the inner folds of the vulva. Tissue is removed either along the free edge, called a trim, or as a wedge from the middle, and the edges are closed with dissolving stitches.
What is the difference between the trim and the wedge technique?
The trim removes tissue along the free border and replaces the natural edge with a surgical line, which suits a larger reduction or a dark or uneven border. The wedge removes a V from the middle and keeps the natural border and its colour, which suits a moderate reduction. Which one fits depends on your anatomy.
Is labiaplasty available on the NHS?
Not routinely for appearance. It is considered where there is a documented physical problem, assessed by a specialist, and policies vary between local areas. It is not offered to under-eighteens for cosmetic reasons. Surgery you pay for abroad is not reimbursed afterwards.
How much does labiaplasty cost in Turkey?
It depends on the technique, whether one or both sides are treated, whether the clitoral hood is included, the anaesthetic and what the package covers. The clinic list on this page shows the current price at each hospital with a note of what it includes.
How long is the recovery?
Swelling and soreness are worst in the first days, sitting and walking are uncomfortable for a couple of weeks, and exercise, baths, tampons and intercourse usually wait until your surgeon clears them at around six weeks. Swelling and scars settle over months.
Will it affect sensation?
Altered sensation is a recognised risk. Careful technique protects the nerve supply to the edge, and most people report no lasting change, but numbness, sensitivity or discomfort during intercourse can occur and should be discussed before you consent.
Can labiaplasty be reversed?
Not really. Tissue that has been removed cannot be put back. A conservative first operation can be revised if you want more taken; an over-resection is the outcome with no good remedy, which is the single strongest argument for a cautious surgeon.
Is it done under general anaesthetic?
Often under local anaesthetic with sedation, sometimes under general. It is usually a day case either way.
When can I fly home?
Your surgeon sets this, and it depends on how you are healing. Sitting for hours puts pressure on the wound, so agree the timing before you book and keep the return flight changeable.
Do I need to stop having periods or wait for a particular time in my cycle?
Clinics often prefer to operate outside your period for practical reasons, and tampons are avoided during healing. Tell the clinic your dates when you book so the schedule fits.
