Prof. Semra Kahraman

Prof. Semra Kahraman is an IVF and reproductive genetics specialist at Istanbul European Clinic, Turkey. She earned her medical degree from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1981, then specialised in obstetrics and gynaecology at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, completing her training in 1989. She was appointed professor at Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul, in 2004.

Early in her career she trained at the Fertility Center of Oslo University Hospital, Norway, and at reproductive genetics centres in Chicago and New York, and carried out research at the Schoysman Infertility Management Foundation in Belgium. She went on to perform Turkey's first applications of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), embryo freezing and preimplantation genetic diagnosis for single-gene disorders, HLA typing and aneuploidy testing, and led the team that first isolated and established an embryonic stem cell line in Turkey.

She is a founding board member and past president of the Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis International Society (PGDIS), received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Turkish Society of Reproductive Medicine in 2008, and received the ASRM Star Award from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine repeatedly between 2017 and 2021. Her research on IVF and reproductive genetics is widely published, including Results of preimplantation genetic diagnosis in patients with Klinefelter's syndrome (Reproductive BioMedicine Online, 2003) and Chromosomal, gestational, and neonatal outcomes of embryos classified as a mosaic by preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (Fertility and Sterility, 2023). She treats patients in English and Turkish.
