My experience was great!

I was worried that I would have my surgery in a foreign country alone, but Luna Clinic made me feel right at home. They attended to my every need right away, and I didn’t feel alone even for one second. Thanks for everything. My experience was great!

Excellent Service from Abud of Flymedi

Abud was excellent in arranging my visit to Istanbul for both Eyelid and Hair Treatment. I decided to combine both treatments at Estecenter due to the clinics reputation. recommendations and also Abud's guidance. Abud clearly communicated the types of treatments available , estimated costs , all treatment schedules , travel logistics , hotel arrangements and daily transportation to and from clinic. Through responses coordinated between Abud and Estecenter he answered all my questions beforehand and was concise in the cost of treatments being communicated by Estecenter . Truly excellent service and i highly recommend you engage Abud as this leaves you know worries in relaxing during and after your very important treatments that you waited so long to have done Also i decided to stay and additional 7 days , at my own cost in Istanbul, to help my recovery.

Life changing !

I had a massive operation with a full body lift that actually required 2 separate visits to Turkey which was very daunting for me to commit to but I’m so happy I did. I’ve never felt comfortable in my own skin and really struggled with my body especially after having 2 kids. It was really nice to do something for myself and Luna clinic made the experience hassle free for me. They were there for me from beginning to end through both visits and it couldn’t have gone better for me. Thank you so much for the life changing operation and experience.

Recommended For Microdiscectomy

Anyone suffering from herniated disc pain is a candidate for Microdiscectomy. On the other hand, pain in the lumbar spine or neck does not mean you have a herniated disc problem. Patients need to undergo a few tests such as MRI and doctor's examination to diagnose the problem. Then, other spinal diseases can be eliminated, and the patient can undergo Microdiscectomy.

Not Recommended For Microdiscectomy

If your doctor diagnosed you with a herniated disc, you might undergo a microdiscectomy. Only, if you have a herniated disc problem but do not have pain, non-surgical solutions are preferred.

Overview

Herniated disc generally result in spinal stenosis (Pain due to compression of the spinal nerve) or pain in limbs which called sciatica. Since these symptoms-based pains can’t be tolerated easily, doctors recommend discectomy or more often Microdiscectomy for treatment of herniated disc. Microdiscectomy aims to remove hernia to cure herniated disc disease. Even if Microdiscectomy has a complicated procedure and aims to cure such a sensitive area as human’s spine, it is a well-studied and practiced procedure for several years. Therefore, more patients decided to undergo Microdiscectomy abroad to spend less money according to their country.

Preparation

It is recommended to stop smoking before surgery. Healthy eating and exercise may also be an option. Also, you should not eat for six hours before surgery.

How It Is Performed

Generally, full anesthesia is used while performing Microdiscectomy. To reach the spine, patients lie face down during the operation. Doctors make small incisions to reach the spine muscles in the same way as lumbar decompression treatment. The difference between traditional discectomy and Microdiscectomy is the size of incisions. Thanks to the microscope and other optical instruments, the incision size in Microdiscectomy is quite small. Once the spine muscles are reached, the doctor focuses on the hernia.Sometimes in order to do so, the specialist needs to conduct laminotomy (removal of a small part of one’s vertebrae). After reaching the herniated disk, its herniated part is cut to relieve pain and bring the regular functioning of spinal nerves back. At the last part of Microdiscectomy, muscles on the spine restored to their former place and incision is closed.

Recovery

Although most of the surgeries are needed a rest for a few days, microdiscectomy patients can leave the hospital within a few hours. Furthermore, after a microdiscectomy, patients should be active, and patients are encouraged to return to their day-to-day lives after surgery. However, that is not mean patients can behave as nothing happened. After the microdiscectomy, patients should continue their activities step by step for a healthy healing process.

Risks

Although Microdiscectomy is a safer kind of operation than other lower back surgeries, it has a few risks. Fluid leakage in the spinal cord, also known as a dural tear, is the most common. But after one or two day rest, this problem may be solved. Also, some rare risks may occur such as infection, internal or external bleeding, damage to the patient’s nerves, thrombosis on leg and problems with bowels or bladder but all of these risks are uncommon, and your doctor can heal these.

Side Effects

Microdiscectomy procedure generally has no side effects, but in some cases, herniated disc pain may not pass. In this situation, another surgery procedure needs to be done. However, the herniated disc problem may recur in the future, in which case re-operation is necessary.

Success Rates

Microdiscectomy success rate is thought to be rather high, around 85%, which is a really good sign remembering how fragile area is human’s spine.

Before And After

If there is sciatic pain due to a herniated disc, it is expected to heal after surgery. Complaints such as spinal stenosis and low back pain are expected to heal slowly.

Faq

I Have Herniated Disc. Should I havea Microdiscectomy?
The most important aspect in estimating whether you need a microdiscectomy is herniated disc pain. If you don’t experience it, you probably won’t need a microdiscectomy.

Why is Microdiscectomy thought to Be Better than Normal Discectomy?
Microdiscectomy’s advantage is in the size of incision – the smaller incision, the sooner it heals, and the smaller is a possibility of occurrence of infection. For this reason, Microdiscectomy is more popular among patients and doctors.

Microdiscectomy Recovery Time – Should I Spend It in Bed?
No, definitely not. Microdiscectomy recovery time should be dedicated to a gradual resumption of your previous lifestyle, without putting too much stress on your spine.
