Breast implants in Thailand

Breast implants in Thailand are sold as a package in Thai baht covering the implant, the surgeon, the anaesthetist, a night in hospital and the check-ups until you are cleared to fly, with the same Motiva and Mentor implants used at home. This page explains what decides the price, what a package does and does not cover, how to choose an implant and a surgeon in Bangkok, Phuket or Pattaya, how the trip runs and what aftercare in Australia, New Zealand or the UK looks like.

Breast implants in Thailand

Breast implants in Thailand are sold as a package: the implant, the surgeon, the anaesthetist, the theatre, a night in hospital, the surgical bra and the check-ups until you are cleared to fly, priced in Thai baht and often quoted in Australian or US dollars beside it. The implant brands are the same ones used at home, Motiva and Mentor above all, and the surgeons who do the most of this work sit in the large private hospitals of Bangkok and the plastic surgery hospitals of Phuket and Pattaya.

What the package does not include is the part most people underestimate: the flight home with fresh incisions, the follow-up once you are back in Australia, New Zealand or the United Kingdom, and the cost of fixing anything that goes wrong after you land. This page walks through what decides the price, what a package covers, how to choose an implant and a surgeon, how the trip runs day by day and what the honest comparison with surgery at home looks like, so the prices in the clinic listing below can be read properly.

  • Compare what a quote covers

Every clinic on this page shows its current price with a note of what it includes. That note is the comparison; the headline figure on its own is not.
  • Board, licence, accreditation

Thai Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for the surgeon, a Ministry of Public Health licence for the facility, and hospital accreditation you can verify.
  • Stay until you are cleared to fly

Plan on at least a week in Thailand after surgery, often closer to ten days, so the surgeon can check the incisions and any drains before the flight.
  • Keep the implant card

Brand, model, size and serial numbers. You need it for scans at home, for any future surgery and for any manufacturer programme.

Why people fly to Thailand for breast implants, and what to weigh

Breast augmentation is the procedure Thai plastic surgery hospitals do most for international patients, which is why the packages are so standardised and why a surgeon in Bangkok or Phuket may have placed more implants in a year than many surgeons at home place in several. The hospitals are used to patients who arrive with photographs and a return flight booked, they stock the implant brands Australian and British surgeons use, and the price of the whole package is usually known before you travel.

The things to weigh sit on the other side of the ledger. You are choosing a surgeon from photographs and a video call rather than a consultation you can walk out of. You will fly home with wounds that are still fresh. Aftercare falls to a doctor who did not operate on you, and a revision, if you need one, means either a second trip or paying full price at home. None of that makes Thailand a wrong choice; it makes it a choice that has to be planned as a medical trip rather than a holiday with surgery in it.

The cost of breast implants in Thailand

The price of breast implants in Thailand is a package price, quoted in Thai baht, and it moves with a short list of decisions. Each clinic on this page shows its current price together with a note of what that price covers, and that is the figure to compare, because two quotes that look alike can differ by the implant brand, the number of nights and whether the anaesthetist is inside or outside the total.

  • The implant brand. Motiva implants cost more than standard round silicone implants, and a package built on them is priced higher. Mentor sits in between. Ask which model, not only which brand.
  • Implants alone or implants with a lift. A breast lift with implants is a longer operation with more scarring and a higher fee than augmentation on its own.
  • Placement and approach. Under the muscle takes longer than over it, and an armpit incision done with an endoscope is priced above a fold incision at some hospitals.
  • Hospital or clinic, and which city. A large Bangkok hospital with an international department charges more than a clinic; Phuket often sits between the two.
  • Nights and anaesthetic. General anaesthesia with a night on the ward costs more than sedation with same-day discharge, and for implants the former is the usual and safer arrangement.
  • Primary or revision. Replacing or removing implants costs more than a first augmentation, and a capsulectomy adds theatre time.
  • The surgeon. Surgeons who take revision cases and who trained abroad charge more, and for a revision that is usually money well spent.

What is included in the cost

A Thai package normally covers everything that happens inside the hospital, from the pre-operative tests to the last check-up before you fly. What it rarely covers is anything that happens after you land at home. Get the contents in writing before paying a deposit, and ask specifically about the items in the second and third groups below.

  • Usually included. Consultation, blood tests and a chest X-ray or ECG where the anaesthetist wants one, the implants, the surgeon and anaesthetist fees, the theatre, one night in hospital, medication, the surgical bra, dressing changes and the follow-up visits until you are cleared to fly.
  • Sometimes included. Hotel nights near the hospital, airport and hospital transfers, a nurse visit at the hotel, and a mammogram or ultrasound before surgery for patients over a certain age.
  • Rarely included. Flights, travel insurance, a longer stay if healing is slow, drains left in beyond discharge, treatment of complications after you are home, and revision surgery, with or without the flight back.
  • What the deposit buys. A date and a surgeon. Ask whether it is refunded if the examination in Thailand changes the plan or the price.

Instalment options for the whole trip are described on the payment plans page. Manufacturer programmes for Motiva and Mentor replace the implant in defined cases such as rupture and may contribute to surgical costs for a limited period; they never cover the flight, so ask the hospital what happens in practice for a patient who lives abroad.

Price comparison: breast implants Australia vs Thailand

The comparison most Australian, New Zealand and British patients want is not a table of two numbers, because the two numbers do not cover the same things. An Australian quote is usually the surgeon's fee plus separate charges for the anaesthetist, the hospital and the implants, in Australian dollars, with follow-up in the same rooms for as long as you need it. A Thai quote is one package in baht covering the hospital side and ending when you fly.

To compare them honestly, add to the Thai figure the flights, the extra hotel nights while you wait to be cleared to fly, a companion's costs if someone travels with you, travel insurance that will not cover the surgery itself, and a reserve for aftercare at home. Add to the Australian figure nothing, but ask what a revision would cost, because that is the number that becomes relevant if a Thai result needs correcting years later. The implants themselves are the same brands in both places. What differs is who looks after you afterwards and how far away they are.

Choosing the implant: Motiva, Mentor, round, teardrop, smooth or textured

Silicone gel implants are what almost every Thai hospital places; saline implants are available but rarely chosen. Within silicone, the choices are the brand, the shape, the surface and the profile. Motiva implants, with a smooth micro-textured surface and a softer gel, are the brand Thai packages most often name and have been in routine use in Thailand for years. Mentor is the other brand you will see everywhere. Both are the implants surgeons at home also use, so a Thai implant is not a different product.

Round implants give fullness at the top of the breast and cannot rotate; anatomical or teardrop implants mimic the natural slope and can rotate if the pocket allows it, which is why many surgeons now reserve them for reconstruction or thin patients with little breast tissue. Heavily textured implants were linked to a rare lymphoma, BIA-ALCL, and one manufacturer's textured range was withdrawn worldwide; Thai hospitals stopped using it at the same time. Ask the surgeon in plain terms which surface they are proposing and why.

Size is chosen in the consultation with sizers under a bra, not from a number you bring. A surgeon who agrees to any size without measuring your chest width and skin is not the one to choose. The implant card you receive after surgery lists brand, model, volume and serial numbers; keep it with your passport.

The differences between shapes are covered on the round breast implants and teardrop breast implants pages, and the brand on the Mentor breast implants in Thailand page. If you want a modest increase without an implant, breast fat transfer in Thailand is the alternative, and a breast that has dropped rather than emptied belongs on the breast lift in Thailand page.

Placement and incision

The implant goes either under the breast tissue on top of the chest muscle, or under the muscle in a dual-plane pocket. Under the muscle hides the implant edge in slim patients, reads better on mammograms and has a lower rate of capsular contracture, at the cost of a sorer first week and a distortion of the breast when the muscle flexes. Over the muscle suits patients with enough of their own tissue and a stronger chest.

The incision is usually in the fold under the breast, which gives the surgeon a clear view and full control. Around the areola is an option for patients with a large areola and a small implant; the armpit approach, common in Asia and offered widely in Thailand, leaves no scar on the breast but is harder to revise. The choice should come from the surgeon's reasoning about your anatomy, not from a menu.

How to check a surgeon and a hospital in Thailand

Thailand licenses doctors and facilities separately. The surgeon should hold a licence from the Medical Council of Thailand and the Thai Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the specialist qualification issued through the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand; membership of the Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of Thailand or the Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons of Thailand is a further sign of a surgeon trained in the specialty. This is the counterpart of checking a specialist plastic surgeon's registration with AHPRA at home.

The facility should hold a Ministry of Public Health licence for surgery under general anaesthesia. Private hospitals in Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya commonly carry Hospital Accreditation from Thailand's Healthcare Accreditation Institute, and several also hold Joint Commission International accreditation. A small cosmetic clinic may be licensed only for local anaesthetic procedures; breast augmentation belongs in a facility with a physician anaesthetist, recovery staff and a ward.

  • Ask for the surgeon's full name and licence number and look them up in the Medical Council of Thailand register before paying anything.
  • Ask who gives the anaesthetic. A named physician anaesthetist in a theatre with monitoring, not sedation from the surgeon.
  • Ask for healed photographs of patients built like you, at a year rather than at weeks, from the front and the side and with arms raised.
  • Ask how many augmentations the surgeon does in a year, and how many revisions. A surgeon who also does revisions understands what goes wrong.
  • Ask what happens if you need a revision, who does it, whether the surgeon's fee is waived and what you would pay for the hospital and the flight.
  • Ask for the implant card and an English operative report in writing before you leave, with the pocket, the incision and the implant serial numbers on it.

Bangkok, Phuket or Pattaya

Bangkok has the large private hospitals with international departments, interpreters and hotel arrangements, and most of the surgeons with fellowships abroad. Phuket has a plastic surgery hospital of its own and general hospitals long used to Australian and New Zealand patients, with direct flights from several Australian cities; it is the natural choice if you want the recovery days by a pool you are not allowed to swim in. Pattaya has fewer options but a hospital used to international breast patients, and Chiang Mai a handful of serious surgeons.

Wherever you go, the recovery week is not a beach holiday. No swimming, no sun on the incisions, no lifting, no raising the arms above the shoulders in the first days, and a surgical bra day and night. Plan the sightseeing for the days before surgery.

How the breast surgery in Thailand works, step by step

  1. Online consultation with photographs

Front and both sides, in a plain bra and without, with your height, weight, bra size, any pregnancies and whether you plan more. The surgeon should reply with a plan for pocket, incision and implant range, not only a price.
  2. Arrival and examination

Most hospitals want you in Thailand a day or two before surgery for the in-person examination, sizing, blood tests and the anaesthetic assessment. This is where the plan and the price are confirmed and where you can still walk away for the cost of the deposit.
  3. The operation

Under general anaesthesia, usually an hour or two, through the fold, the areola or the armpit. Some surgeons leave drains for a day. You wake in a surgical bra and stay a night on the ward in most packages.
  4. The first days

Tightness, swelling and a sore chest that settles over the first week. Sleep propped up, walk often, do not lift, keep the incisions dry and do not raise the arms above the shoulders. Most patients move to a hotel near the hospital after the first night.
  5. Check-up and clearance to fly

Around a week after surgery the surgeon checks the incisions, removes any drains or sutures that are not dissolvable and clears you to fly. If healing is slow you stay longer, which is why the return flight should be changeable.
  6. Home and the long tail

Implants sit high and firm at first and settle over months. Send the surgeon photographs at the agreed points, see a doctor at home the same day for fever, spreading redness, sudden swelling of one breast or a wound that opens, and book the imaging and check-ups your surgeon recommends for the years ahead.

Flying home and aftercare in Australia, New Zealand or the UK

The flight itself is rarely the problem if you have been cleared; the problems are what you cannot see yet. A haematoma or seroma can appear in the first weeks, an infection can declare itself after you land, and capsular contracture takes months. Medicare, the New Zealand public system and the NHS will treat an emergency, an infection or a bleed like any other patient's. What they will not do is correct a cosmetic result, and private health funds normally exclude complications of elective surgery overseas. Ask your fund in writing before you book.

Arrange the doctor who will see you before you leave: a specialist plastic surgeon or breast surgeon for the implants, your GP for fever or infection. Take the English operative report and the implant card to that appointment. Some surgeons at home decline to revise another surgeon's work, so ask the question when you book the appointment, not after a problem appears. Tell every radiographer you have implants: mammograms need extra views, and a silent rupture of a silicone implant is usually found on ultrasound or MRI, not by feel.

Who should not have breast implants in Thailand

  • Anyone who cannot stay until the surgeon clears them to fly, which means at least a week and sometimes longer.
  • Anyone who is pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy soon, because the breast will change and the result with it.
  • Smokers who will not stop, because wound healing is slower and the infection and contracture risks are higher.
  • Anyone with an untreated breast lump, a strong family history of breast cancer that has not been discussed with a doctor, or a bleeding disorder or blood thinners that cannot be paused.
  • Anyone who wants a size the surgeon says the skin and chest will not carry. Very large implants bring more contracture, more drooping and more revisions.
  • Anyone travelling alone with no one to help for the first days, or under pressure from someone else to have it done.

The next steps if you plan to have breast implants in Thailand

  1. Compare the clinics on this page by what the price covers, not by the headline figure, and shortlist two or three.
  2. Send the same photographs and the same questions to each, and judge the answers by whether they contain a plan, a named surgeon and a written list of inclusions.
  3. Look up the surgeon and the hospital in the Medical Council of Thailand register and the accreditation lists before paying a deposit.
  4. Ask your health fund and your GP at home, in writing, what happens if you come back with a complication, and who will see you.
  5. Book flights that can be changed, a companion for the first days and a hotel near the hospital, and plan at least a week after surgery in Thailand.
  6. Take the implant card and the English operative report home, and book your first check-up at home before you fly out.

If you are weighing Thailand against Turkey, the breast implants in Turkey page describes a market built around European patients with shorter flights from the UK. The breast implants abroad page compares the destinations, the breast implant revision and breast implant removal pages cover second operations in Thailand, and the plastic surgery in Thailand hub lists the procedures people combine with implants.

Frequently asked questions

Answers from the medical content team, reviewed by the medical reviewer named on this page.

How much are breast implants in Thailand?
The price is a package in Thai baht that moves with the implant brand, whether a lift is added, the placement, the hospital and city, the number of nights and the surgeon. Each clinic on this page shows its current price with a note of what it covers, and that note is the figure to compare. Add flights, hotel nights, insurance and a reserve for aftercare at home to get the real total.
Is Thailand a good place to get breast implants?
For a straightforward first augmentation in a licensed hospital with a board-certified plastic surgeon, yes, provided you plan it as a medical trip: a week or more in Thailand after surgery, a companion, changeable flights and a doctor at home lined up. It is a poor choice for anyone who cannot stay for the check-up or who has no plan for aftercare.
Is breast augmentation safe in Thailand?
Licensed Thai hospitals are audited against published standards, and the implants are the same brands used at home. The safety of your operation still depends on the specific surgeon, anaesthetist and facility, so check the Medical Council licence, the Thai Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the hospital licence and its accreditation, and confirm a physician anaesthetist gives the general anaesthetic.
How long do I need to stay in Thailand after my boob job?
Until the surgeon has checked the incisions, removed any drains or non-dissolvable sutures and cleared you to fly, which is usually about a week after surgery and sometimes closer to ten days, plus a day or two before it for the examination and tests.
What does a Thailand breast implants package include?
Normally the implants, the surgeon and anaesthetist, the theatre, a night in hospital, medication, the surgical bra and the follow-ups until you fly. Sometimes hotel nights and transfers. Rarely flights, insurance, an extended stay, treatment after you are home or revision surgery. Get it in writing.
Which implant brands do Thai hospitals use?
Mostly Motiva and Mentor, the same brands surgeons at home use, in silicone gel. Saline implants are available but rarely chosen. Ask for the model, the surface and the profile, not just the brand, and keep the implant card.
Can I get Motiva implants in Thailand?
Yes. Motiva implants have been in routine use in Thailand for years and are the brand most packages name, usually at a higher price than standard round silicone implants. Ask which Motiva model is proposed and why it suits your tissue.
Can I get a breast lift with implants in Thailand?
Yes. A lift with implants is common for breasts that have dropped and emptied after pregnancy or weight loss. It is a longer operation with more scarring, a higher fee and a longer stay, and it belongs with a surgeon who does lifts regularly rather than augmentations alone.
Is breast augmentation in Bangkok or Phuket better?
Bangkok has more surgeons with overseas fellowships and larger hospitals with international departments. Phuket has a plastic surgery hospital, general hospitals used to Australian patients and direct flights from several Australian cities. Choose the surgeon first and the city second.
Can I get breast implants in Pattaya?
Yes. Pattaya has a large private hospital with an international department that sees breast patients from Australia, Europe and Russia. Apply the same checks as anywhere else: the surgeon's board certification, the hospital licence and what the package covers.
What is the recovery like for breast augmentation in Thailand?
A sore, tight chest for the first week, swelling that settles over weeks and implants that sit high and firm for months before they drop. No lifting, no swimming, no sun on the incisions and a surgical bra day and night until the surgeon says otherwise. Desk work is possible soon after you are home; anything physical waits longer.
Will my health fund cover complications when I get home?
Medicare, the New Zealand public system and the NHS will treat an emergency, an infection or a bleed. Private health funds normally exclude complications of elective surgery overseas, and no system pays to correct a cosmetic result. Ask your fund in writing before you book.
Do breast implants need to be replaced?
Implants are not lifetime devices. They do not need replacing on a schedule, but rupture, contracture, a change in your breast or a change in what you want will bring you back to a surgeon at some point. Plan for that surgery to happen at home or as a second trip.
How do Thailand vs Turkey breast augmentation costs compare?
Both sell packages that cover the hospital side; the differences are the flight time from where you live, the language of the aftercare and which surgeons you can reach. From Australia and New Zealand Thailand is the shorter trip; from the United Kingdom Turkey is. Compare what each package covers rather than the headline figures.
Will my breast implants look natural?
That depends on the size relative to your chest and skin, the pocket and the implant profile far more than on the country. A surgeon who measures you, shows healed results on similar frames and talks you out of a size your tissue cannot carry is the one whose results look natural.
