Long waiting times in UK…

Because of long waiting times in UK hospitals due to Covid19, I hit upon the idea of having my bilateral hernia surgery done while on a 2-week holiday in Antalya. After making inquiries through Yasmin, I had a short but comprehensive consultation with an eminent surgeon Prof Alihan Gürkan and my operation was scheduled for a day halfway through my stay in Antalya. It went well with keyhole surgery, I stayed in overnight and was discharged the next day, which gave me 6 days to recover before my flight home to Scotland. Yasmin kept in touch throughout, making sure I had transport to and from the hospital, and a special thanks to Fatma, my mentor and guide at the Memorial Hospital on my day of tests and examinations. I telephoned my surgeon a few days after the operation for advice on removing my plasters and he was most helpful and reassuring about my complete recovery. I was not too fond of the breakfast, but considered it as another form of medicine! My flight home was amazingly comfortable without painkillers, although they were definitely needed for a few days after my operation. In conclusion, I would be happy to have other treatment like this, though in a nice sort of way I hope never to set eyes on the Memorial Hospital again. 🙂

A very positive outcome

A very positive outcome, following my decision to pursue in having dental cosmetic surgery/treatment carried out in Turkey. Excellent advisory skills by Flymedi rep Abud. He was professional, well informed, and followed me up with total attention throughout the whole process. Last but not least, I thank Dr Ahmed Kumsan and his team at Infinity Smiles Dental Clinic for their commitment and professionalism. Highly recommended.

Thank you Flymedi

I was considering several different options, however Abud was by far the most committed and helpful of all the agents I'd been in discussions with. Everything was organised for me and I was guided throughout and if I was feeling apprehensive about anything or had any questions Abud was always on hand to answer my questions and give reassurances. I'm so happy with the results of my operation and I was left overwhelmed by how friendly and supportive everyone was throughout. If you're considering using flymedi then I can honestly say you'll be delighted with the service both before during and after your surgery.

Overview

Cataract surgery is a very common procedure used to treat cataract condition, which refers to the clouding of the natural lens of the eye, often leading to a decrease in the patient's vision. Cataract, which can affect one eye or both, usually develops slowly, over a long period of time. Cataract symptoms include one or more of the following:

● Blurry vision
● Less vivid color vision
● Halos around light
● Trouble seeing at night

Patients suffering from cataract have a problem, especially with reading, driving, and recognizing faces. Although most cataracts are related to aging, the condition is also linked to depression and an increased risk of accidents such as falling. By age 80, more than half of all Americans have a cataract or have had cataract surgery, and cataract currently causes 50% of the world’s blindness.

Cataract can be caused by one or more of the following:

● Age
● Trauma to the natural lens of the eye

● Depression
● Radiation
● Genetics
● Skin diseases
● Smoking
● Medications

Other factors that can cause cataract and ultimately lead to cataract surgery, include:

● Diabetes
● Hypertension
● Poor nutrition
● High alcohol intake

●Hormone replacement therapy

● High myopia

Although early cataract symptoms may be corrected by wearing glasses, many people require cataract surgery in order to regain their vision. They choose to undergo cataract surgery by evaluating various cost alternatives in (usually) private clinics where successful surgeons are involved.

Preparation

Patients need to have a detailed eye examination before undergoing cataract eye surgery or cataract surgery. In some cases, cataract surgery may not be needed if the patient has a satisfactory functional vision and/or other procedures may be required before the cataract surgery option.

How It Is Performed

Cataract eye surgery or cataract surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia. The eye is numbed with an injection or by using anesthetic eye drops.

During cataract surgery, a cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens. The eye doctor firstly creates two incisions into the clear cornea of the patient. A circular hole is then created into the capsule where the artificial lens is located. At this point, ultrasound waves may be used to liquefy the lens, after which it is removed. The soft outer layer of the cataract is also removed. Saline solution is inserted into the front part of the eye to help it maintain its shape. A plastic lens is then inserted into the eye where the natural lens used to be. The eye doctor may also inject antibiotics in that area in order to prevent any risk of infections

Recovery

The cataract surgery recovery time is usually quite short. Patients can leave the hospital in one or two days. Heavy physical activities and lifting need to be avoided for around 4 weeks after the cataract surgery. Doctors recommend wearing an eye shield, especially while sleeping for a few days after the procedure.Patients need to be followed the cataract surgery aftercare carefully advises given by their doctors to have a comfortable recovery

Risks

Cataract surgery complications and risks include:

● Infection
● Retinal detachment
● Endophthalmitis
● Glaucoma
● Bleeding in the eye

● Damage to other parts of your eye
● Loss of vision
● Secondary cataract

Side Effects

Cataract surgery side effects include:

● Inflammation in the eye’s region
● Itchiness in the eye’s region
● Swelling
● Pain and discomfort
● Dry eyes

● Double vision

● High or low eye pressure

Success Rates

Cataract surgery studies and reviews determine the average success rate between 85% and 92%. In general, approximately 95% of patients are satisfied with the results of this procedure.

Before And After

Patients may still require glasses on certain occasions, even after cataract surgery. If the patient has a cataract in both eyes, two surgeries need to be performed at an interval of around 2 months. Patients can drive 24 hours after cataract surgery. After the procedure, patients usually experience improved vision and increased mobility.Although eyes are highly sensitive organs, cataract surgery is not a painful procedure. No pain is felt during the operation due to anesthesia, and mild to moderate pain after surgery can be easily relieved with prescription drugs
