Hair transplantation is a popular treatment option for improving people's appearances. The technique has a very high success and satisfaction rate. Hair transplantation has a few guidelines and rules that must be followed, just as with any procedure.
Before your operation
To optimize your hair transplant grafts, follow these instructions carefully:
- Hair transplant procedure price is based on the technique used as opposed to the number of grafts taken. So if the number of grafts changes during the procedure, you will not be charged more for this.
- For one week before your procedure, avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, garlic, and spices, as well as minoxidil-based medicines, energy drinks such as Red Bull, high-dose vitamins, and herbal supplements, as they may increase your risk of bleeding. Paracetamol is okay to have.
- Let us know about any medications, serious illnesses, allergies, or recreational drugs you may be on, as they may interact with local anesthesia.
- If you smoke, try to reduce the amount you smoke a few days before and after the surgery.
- Wear comfortable clothes on the day of the surgery, and wash your hair either on the day of the procedure or the day before. Make sure you eat breakfast or an early lunch before your procedure.
- Do not drink any high-strength caffeine drinks or foods on the morning of your surgery, as this can increase your risk of excessive bleeding.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask us. We are always ready to ease your worries.
During your operation
- You may wear a baseball cap or similar to go home in, but not a tight-fitting or wooly hat. We will show you how to put it on, but once it is in place, do not take it off or adjust it, as your scalp will still be numb from the local anesthesia, and it is easy to dislodge or damage grafts without realizing it. When you get home, we recommend that you remove the cap slowly and carefully while watching in the mirror.
- You may need to take paracetamol or ibuprofen for the first 24 - 48 hours. Once the local anesthesia has worn off, your donor site will likely feel tight and sore. Taking painkillers regularly every four to six hours for the first 24 hours or so will reduce the discomfort to a minimum. Do not drink alcohol for the first 24 hours, as it "thins the blood" and may cause minor bleeding.
- After the procedure, you may experience slight spotting of blood from the donor site, but this is not unusual, and you should press firmly on the area for five minutes with the clean swabs provided.
After your operation
The donor area is the area at the back and sides of your head from which we harvested hair follicles. You may experience some bleeding from the area due to multiple punctures.
- The hair follicles were extracted with a rotating blade, which will cause oozing. Use jelonet and compression to manage any bleeding, and if there are still scabs of blood, dab the area with a clean tissue or gauze. You can wash the donor area with baby Johnson's shampoo within 3-4 days, and use a towel at the back of your head to absorb any soaked blood.
- Do not wash your hair in the shower for the first four days, as this may dislodge the hair follicles from the recipient.
- For the first 7-10 days after the treatment, be gentle with your newly transplanted hair. Avoid rubbing, scratching, or picking at the transplanted region.
- For the first two weeks after the treatment, avoid exposing your scalp to direct sunlight or excessive temperatures.
- Do not wear anything on your head for two weeks after the procedure (including hats, beanies, hard hats - anything like this) as it will damage the follicles and affect the growth
- While going outside, use a loose-fitting hat or headscarf to protect your scalp from the sun.
- For the first week after the surgery, avoid high-intensity exercise or activities that induce sweating.
- For at least a week after the surgery, refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol.
- The recipient or implanted area is where you received the follicles and more than 1000 small incisions with a microblade. You may experience some inflammation, which is normal, so we provide prednisone to take as instructed by your doctor. The prednisone is intended only to treat inflammation and should be taken in the morning with a meal for four days.
- If you take any steroids, inform your doctor in advance.
- The hair follicles and the surrounding skin are active tissues that require oxygen, nourishment, and hydration. Keep the grafts wet for the first 48 hours and constantly use the sterile water we provided to allow the cells to draw on neighboring cells for the transfer of essential nutrients in the first few days.
It can take several months to see the long-term changes of the hair transplant, so be patient with the outcomes. Don’t miss your follow-up appointments with your doctor to ensure effective healing and progress.
