Turkey is a treasure trove of traditions, spices, street food delights and destinations for any intrepid tourist. It’s a mix between the familiar and the exotic, ranging from the bustling streets of Istanbul to the serene and relaxed Roman ruins spread around Turkey’s Western and Southern coast. Turkey is a fairly large country with 75 million inhabitants. The country spreads between Europe and Asia, with 97% of the country on the Asian side – Asian Turkey. Turkey is encircled and enjoys access to three different seas: The Black Sea, The Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean. Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey and the largest city in Europe, regarding population – It has over 14 million people.

Turkey’s medical infrastructure has improved greatly beginning with the early 2000s and now is one of the biggest medical tourism hubs in Europe and Asia. Turkey has the largest number of JCI-accredited hospitals, second only to the USA and hospitals are more often than not part of international healthcare groups, following strict European protocols and regulations. Turkey has 28.000 medical institutions spread across the European and Asian side but some of the biggest private hospitals and medical centres are in Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya and Bodrum – these also happen to be some of the best tourist destinations in Turkey.

Sights to See

Bodrum is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Turkey, with its sandy beaches and small streets littered with traditional shops and elegant restaurants. The town used to be called Halicarnassus, and the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is one of the World’s Seven Ancient Wonders. Bodrum also features a castle built by the crusaders in the 15th century.

Istanbul is the home of several architectural treasures, including the Blue Mosque. The Blue Mosque was built on the orders of Sultan Ahmed between 1609 and 1616 and the Sultan’s body still resides within the mosque. The high ceiling is lined with more than 20000 handmade ceramic tiles, hence the name – The Blue Mosque.

Pamukkale, meaning “The Cotton Castle” in Turkish is a surreal destination in the country’s western region of Denizli, world renowned for its white terraces with warm spring water. The ancient Greek city of Hierapolis was built over the springs and Pamukkale was a renowned destination in antiquity as well. Tourists can visit the ancient Roman and Greek ruins of the baths, temples and theatres dating to the second century BC.

Silhouette Lift

A silhouette lift is a type of minimally invasive procedure, usually performed in order to rejuvenate the appearance of the midface, neck and brow areas. The procedure effectively elevates and fixates any sagging tissue from these areas by inserting very fine threads under the skin. The threads themselves are very similar to those used in facelift surgery – they are made from polypropylene, a material which is currently used for sutures and stitches inside the body. The silhouette lift threads are different from normal suture material in the sense that the threads also have certain cones which can attach to tissues underneath the skin.

Silhouette lift is a very safe and effective procedure which offers immediate results. The procedure also has considerable advantages to traditional face lift surgery:

● No incision – a silhouette lift is minimally invasive, meaning that it doesn’t require an incision to be performed. Patients will have no visible scars and the risk of infection is lowered as well.
● Speedy recovery – the average silhouette lift recovery period is much shorter than with traditional facelift surgery.
● Anaesthesia – only local anaesthesia is used for a silhouette lift, as opposed to general anaesthesia used for a traditional facelift surgery. More people can benefit from the procedure, as some patients are incompatible with the risks associated with general anaesthesia.
● Good results – a silhouette lift provides immediate results which last for a number of years before other procedures may be necessary.

Silhouette Lift Candidates

A silhouette lift is recommended for patients with sagging skin, wrinkles, jowls or eye bags in the neck, brow and midface areas. The procedure is also recommended for patients simply wanting a rejuvenated facial appearance.

Am I Suitable for Silhouette Lift?

Some patients may have certain allergies which can make them incompatible with a silhouette lift procedure.

Preparing for Silhouette Lift

Vitamins, blood thinners, anti-inflammatory medicine, herbal teas need to be avoided at least 1 week before the silhouette lift procedure. Patients need to quit smoking one week before the procedure as well. If the patient suffers from any infection around the face or neck region, it needs to be treated before the silhouette lift.

How is Silhouette Lift Performed?

Local anaesthesia is first administered into the area where the sutures or threads will be placed. Once it kicks in, the plastic surgeon will create a micro incision before starting to insert the threads into specific places. A long needle is used for this part of the procedure. The threads themselves have a small umbrella-like part which latches on to tissue, lifting and repositioning it accordingly. Once the desired appearance is achieved, the needle is removed and the thread is knotted under the skin. The thread knot cannot be seen or felt at this point. There is no need for bandages or sutures this procedure.

Silhouette Lift Recovery

Patients usually return to normal activities in around two days after the silhouette lift procedure. The skin needs around a week to 10 days to completely recover from the procedure. All marks relating to the silhouette lift are invisible by this point. During the first two days patients may experience swelling, discomfort and mild pain but icepacks and painkillers may be used to soothe these post-op side effects.

For around 3 weeks after the procedure, some restrictions need to be taken into account. Patients must avoid rubbing their face too much or trauma to the face or neck. Putting pressure on the face is also not recommended, as these actions can dislodge the silhouette lift threads.
