How It Is Performed
The procedure of male breast reduction with liposuction is usually performed using local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, and it involves a small incision on each side of the male breast which produce minimal scars. Depending on the patients' needs and surgeons' decision, incisions may be located along a portion of the edge of the areola or within the armpit. Surgeons remove excess fat and/or glandular tissue through these incisions to erase the affects of gynecomastia.
It is needed to wear an elastic garment during the day and night for a few weeks after the procedure. After one or two weeks, stitches will either dissolve or be removed. Patients need to avoid stretching, strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for up to six weeks after the operation.
Patients have swelling and bruising for a while after the male breast reduction with liposuction surgery. To help reduce swelling, they will probably be instructed to wear a special compression garment for a couple of weeks. Although the swelling will disappear in the first few weeks, it makes take little longer before the final results of the surgery are visible.
