Buccal fat removal in Turkey

Buccal fat removal takes out the deep cheek fat pad to sharpen the cheekbone, through an incision inside the mouth with no visible scar. It is permanent and cannot be undone, and because the face loses volume with age a sculpted result can later look gaunt. Flymedi lets you compare accredited hospitals and surgeons in Turkey.

Buccal fat removal in Turkey

Buccal fat removal takes out the rounded pad of fat that sits deep in the cheek, to sharpen the cheekbone and hollow the area beneath it. It is done through a small incision inside the mouth, so there is no visible scar.

It is also permanent and it cannot be undone. The pad does not grow back, and the face naturally loses volume with age, so a result that looks sculpted in your twenties can look gaunt in your forties. That trade-off, not the technique, is what this decision turns on.

What the buccal fat pad is

The buccal fat pad is a distinct structure deep in the cheek, separate from the fat just under the skin. It gives the mid-face its fullness. Removing part of it narrows the lower cheek and increases the shadow below the cheekbone. It does not affect the jawline, the jowls or a double chin, which are different problems with different operations.

  • Permanent and irreversible

The pad does not regenerate. If too much is taken, restoring it means fat grafting or fillers, and the result is rarely as good as not having over-removed in the first place.
  • It shrinks naturally with age

Everyone loses mid-face volume over the decades. Removing the pad early accelerates the hollow, gaunt appearance that comes later.
  • It is not a jawline operation

Sagging along the jaw and fullness under the chin are not treated by this. If that is the concern, the wrong procedure will not fix it.
  • The effect is subtle

Photographs promising dramatic change usually show lighting, weight loss or other procedures. Expect a refinement, not a transformation.

Who it suits and who it does not

  • Suits a genuinely full lower cheek. A rounded face with good skin quality, where the fullness sits below the cheekbone rather than in the skin or the jaw.
  • Does not suit a thin or narrow face. If your face is already slim, removal will look hollow quickly and worse over time.
  • Age is a real factor. Surgeons are more cautious in older patients precisely because the volume loss is already under way.
  • Not a treatment for weight. If the fullness is from overall weight, it will change with weight and this operation is the wrong tool.

What the operation involves

  1. Assessment

The surgeon presses the cheek and assesses where the fullness actually sits. Some of what people want removed is skin or muscle, not the fat pad.
  2. Local anaesthetic, usually

Often done awake with local anaesthetic, sometimes with sedation. It is a short procedure.
  3. Incision inside the cheek

A small cut inside the mouth opposite the upper molars. Nothing is visible from outside.
  4. Partial removal

A portion of the pad is teased out and removed. Judging how much to leave is the whole skill of the operation.
  5. Dissolvable stitches

Closed from inside. You eat soft food and rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash for a period.

Recovery

  • The first days. Swelling that makes the cheeks look fuller, not slimmer. Soft food, antiseptic rinses and no vigorous chewing.
  • The first weeks. Swelling settles gradually and the shape starts to appear. Numbness inside the cheek is common and usually temporary.
  • Months, not weeks, for the result. The final contour takes months. Judging it early leads people to ask for more removal, which is the wrong direction.
  • Mouth care matters. The wound is inside the mouth, so hygiene instructions are part of the treatment rather than an afterthought.

What drives the price in Turkey

  • Anaesthetic. Local anaesthetic alone costs less than sedation or a general anaesthetic.
  • Who performs it. A plastic surgeon or a maxillofacial surgeon, and their experience with this specific procedure.
  • Whether it is combined. It is frequently sold alongside chin or cheek implants or a rhinoplasty, which makes quotes hard to compare. Ask for it priced alone.
  • Follow-up. Whether review appointments and any correction are included.

The clinic list on this page shows the current price for each hospital with a label saying what it covers. On staged payment, see the payment plans page. If the concern is really the jawline or the chin profile, the chin implant and chin liposuction pages cover those instead.

Choosing a surgeon

  • Ask to see results at several years. Not at six weeks. The complaint about this operation is almost always about how it aged.
  • Ask what they would decline. A surgeon who says they turn down thin faces is applying judgement. One who takes every enquiry is not.
  • Ask how much they remove. Conservative removal is the accepted approach, and it can always be revisited. Over-removal cannot.
  • Ask about nerve safety. Specifically what protects the facial nerve branches and the parotid duct during the dissection.

Frequently asked questions

Answers from the medical content team, reviewed by the medical reviewer named on this page.

How much does buccal fat removal cost in Turkey?
It depends on the anaesthetic used, who performs it and whether it is combined with anything else. The clinic list on this page shows the current price for each hospital with a note of what it covers.
Is buccal fat removal permanent?
Yes. The pad does not grow back. That is why conservative removal is the accepted approach, since too little can be revisited and too much cannot.
Will it make me look older later?
It can. The face loses mid-face volume naturally with age, and removing the pad adds to that hollowing. This is the main reason surgeons are cautious with younger and thinner patients.
Does it fix a double chin or jowls?
No. Those are separate problems treated by different procedures. Buccal fat sits deep in the cheek and removing it does not change the jawline.
Is there a visible scar?
No. The incision is inside the mouth opposite the upper molars, so nothing shows externally.
How long until I see the result?
Swelling initially makes the cheeks look fuller. The contour emerges over weeks and the final result takes months, so early judgement is misleading.
Can it be reversed?
Not properly. Lost volume can be replaced with fat grafting or fillers, but that is a correction rather than a reversal, and results vary.
How long do I need to stay in Turkey?
It is a short outpatient procedure, but allow time for a review before flying. Confirm the schedule with the clinic and keep the return changeable.
