Which fertility treatment do you need?

The right treatment depends on a specialist's assessment of both partners' test results. Many clinics start with a remote review of the results you already have.

  • IVF abroad: after hormone treatment, eggs are collected and mixed with sperm in a laboratory, and an embryo is placed in the womb.
  • ICSI: an embryologist injects a single sperm into each egg. It is used mainly when sperm quality or numbers are low.
  • PGT (also called PGD): embryos are tested for a specific inherited condition before transfer, where the law allows it. The UK regulator HFEA rates routine chromosome screening of embryos (PGT-A) red for most patients, so ask why a clinic suggests it.
  • IVF with IMSI: sperm are selected under very high magnification before ICSI. HFEA says there is not enough good evidence to rate whether it improves the chance of having a baby, so ask the clinic what evidence it relies on.

Where Flymedi lists fertility clinics, and what each country allows

Flymedi lists fertility clinics in Turkey, Mexico, Thailand, Poland, Colombia and Spain. Most of them are in Turkey, and the destination filter on the clinic list shows how many each country has.

Under Turkey's regulation on assisted reproduction, treatment is only for married couples using their own eggs and sperm. Donor eggs, sperm or embryos and surrogacy are not permitted, and clinics check the marriage certificate of every couple, visitors included.

In the other countries, eligibility and what is permitted follow national law, which can change. Before you travel, have the clinic state in writing that the treatment you need is allowed for you there.

Donor eggs, donor sperm and surrogacy

For some people, the reason to look abroad is a treatment that needs a donor or a surrogate. Both are closely regulated, and the rules differ in every country, including whether donors are anonymous and who the child's legal parents are. Neither is permitted in Turkey.

Before considering them anywhere, get legal advice in your home country and ask the clinic to explain in writing what the local law allows. The UK regulator HFEA sets out the questions to ask in its guide to fertility treatment abroad.

What booking through Flymedi adds

Clinics set their own prices and provide the treatment. Flymedi is free for patients and supports you throughout:

  • One coordinator, at no cost. Gathers your test results for a remote review, compares what clinics can lawfully offer you and helps you plan travel around your treatment.
  • Support after you return home. Your coordinator stays your contact for follow-up questions and helps you get your records to your own doctor.
  • Someone on your side. If something about your treatment or invoice is not right, tell us. We take it up with the clinic on your behalf.

Read how we verify clinics before you choose.

Before you choose a clinic abroad

Check these points with any clinic before you book:

  1. The clinic is licensed for assisted reproduction by its national authority, and you know which law it follows.
  2. It reports live births per embryo transfer by age group, not just pregnancies. See how to read success figures.
  3. It explains its policy on single embryo transfer, which lowers the risk of twins and triplets.
  4. You receive a written, itemised treatment plan before you travel, and copies of your records for your own doctor afterwards.

The medication teaching session was excellent—step-by-step instructions, storage tips, and what side effects to watch for. I liked that they provided a clear checklist for each day. When I had questions later, the team replied quickly and kindly.

I came to discuss egg freezing as part of an IVF plan and appreciated the honest, non-judgmental guidance. The doctor discussed expected yield by age and what “normal” results look like. The clinic handled scheduling and reminders very smoothly.

The team coordinated my IVF cycle very smoothly—from labs and ultrasound scheduling to medication instructions. Nurses explained injections clearly and were quick to respond when I had questions. It felt structured and professional, which reduced a lot of stress.

I was impressed by how organized the monitoring visits were. The nurses gave clear instructions for medications and adjusted doses quickly based on scan results. Wait times were reasonable and communication was consistent throughout the cycle.

Frequently asked questions

Answers from the medical content team, reviewed by the medical reviewer named on this page.

Which fertility treatment is right for me?
A fertility specialist decides, after reviewing both partners' test results. Your Flymedi coordinator can collect the results you have and send them to clinics for a remote review, so you can compare their suggested plans before you travel.
What is the difference between IVF and ICSI?
Both create embryos in a laboratory. In standard IVF, eggs are mixed with sperm and fertilisation happens on its own. In ICSI, an embryologist injects a single sperm into each egg, a method HFEA describes as effective for male infertility.
What is PGT, and is it the same as PGD?
PGT is genetic testing of embryos before transfer. Testing for a specific inherited condition, now called PGT-M, was previously known as PGD. Whether it is allowed, and for which conditions, depends on the country, so ask the clinic which law applies.
Can I have donor or surrogacy treatment through Flymedi?
Not in Turkey, where most clinics on this page are: donor eggs, sperm or embryos and surrogacy are not permitted there. Rules elsewhere differ. Get legal advice at home first, and have the clinic set out in writing what local law allows.
Can single women or same-sex couples have fertility treatment abroad?
It depends on the country. Turkish law allows treatment only for married couples, so single women and same-sex couples cannot be treated there. Elsewhere, get written confirmation from the clinic that you are eligible.
Can some tests and monitoring be done at home?
Often, yes. Many clinics work with your local doctor for scans and blood tests, so ask early who reads the results. The European fertility society ESHRE recommends that your home doctor and the clinic abroad work together on your care.
Does Flymedi charge patients?
No, Flymedi is free for patients. Clinics pay us a fee when a patient they treated came through Flymedi, and the price you are quoted is the price the clinic charges. See how Flymedi works.
