A simple mastectomy is a type of mastectomy practice that is taking out nearly all of one’s breast with the inclusion of areola, nipple, skin, and fat tissue. Contrary to modified radical mastectomy, lymph nodes do not take out by professionals. Generally, when the possibility of using other, more conservative treatment for breast cancer is none, breast removal surgery via simple mastectomy is carried out.
Professionals select the types of mastectomy by considering the patients’ circumstances they are in. Breast cancer patients that have a need to cut out more than segmental mastectomy do but also did not extend to lymph nodes can be the candidates.
Simple Mastectomy (23 Clinics)
The patient is required to stay 1 night in the hospital.
How long is the procedure?
The surgery will take between 2 to 3 hours if there is no complication.
You will need a minimum of 1 to 2 weeks off work.
In the simple mastectomy surgery process, a cut is made, and outer-inner elements of the breast are proceeded to remove by professionals. The period of mastectomy recovery is started after closing the cut. In addition to that, a simple mastectomy may turn out to unilateral mastectomy (removing only one breast) or a double mastectomy (as a prevention against the hazard of breast cancer) procedure.
The recovery period of simple mastectomy may last three weeks, like a modified radical mastectomy. If the patient also thinks to have breast reconstruction surgery to be followed, then the recovery period will last longer.
