Bum implants in Turkey

This is the decision that matters, and the honest version depends on how much fat you have and how much risk you are willing to carry, in two different directions.

A Brazilian butt lift takes fat from elsewhere on your body and transfers it. It needs enough fat to harvest, some of it is reabsorbed, and the operation carries the risk of fat entering a gluteal vein, which is the complication that gave it its reputation. Implants need no donor fat, give predictable and lasting volume, and carry their own set of problems instead: infection, movement, capsular contracture, and wound breakdown in an area you sit on.

• Butt implants

  Predictable volume with no fat needed, and the result does not shrink. Higher rates of infection, displacement and revision than most implant surgery, because of where they sit.

• Brazilian butt lift

  Uses your own fat and reshapes the donor area at the same time, with a softer result. Requires enough fat, some volume is lost over the first months, and it carries the fat embolism risk.

• Both together

  Some surgeons place implants for projection and add fat around them for shape. A bigger operation, and the risks of both.

• Neither, for now

  Unstable weight, a plan to lose weight, smoking, or a job that means sitting all day very soon. Any of those is a reason to wait rather than to compromise.

   Assessment and measurement

   The surgeon assesses muscle bulk, skin quality, fat distribution and the shape you are starting from. Photographs and measurements decide the implant, not a picture you brought.

   General anaesthetic

   Gluteal augmentation is done asleep, usually lying face down, and it takes longer than most implant procedures.

   The pocket

   The incision is made in the crease and a pocket is created in or under the muscle. Making the pocket the right size is the technical heart of the operation: too large and the implant moves, too small and it presses on the closure.

   Placing and closing

   The implant goes in, symmetry is checked, and the wound is closed in layers. The closure in this area carries more tension than almost anywhere else in cosmetic surgery.

   Waking up

   You will be helped to move, and you will not be sitting on it. Expect drains in some techniques and a compression garment.

   The first days

   Pain, tightness and very restricted positioning. Most people stay in hospital at least one night.

• Anyone who cannot take the recovery time. If you cannot avoid sitting for the period your surgeon specifies, the wound will tell you about it.
• Smokers who will not stop. Nicotine impairs wound healing, and this is an incision that already struggles.
• Anyone with unstable weight. Implants do not change with weight, but everything around them does.
• Anyone with an active infection anywhere. Including skin infection near the area, dental infection or a urinary infection. Implants and infection are a bad combination.
• Anyone hoping to fix loose skin. Implants add volume. Sagging skin is a lift, and adding an implant beneath loose skin usually makes the sag more obvious.

• The implants. Brand, size and shape all change the cost, and the quote should name them.
• Whether fat transfer is added. Combining implants with fat around them is a longer operation with liposuction included.
• Hospital nights and garments. This is inpatient surgery with a longer stay than most cosmetic procedures.
• Length of stay before flying. The extra nights are a real cost and should be in the quote rather than a surprise.
• What the package covers. Transfers, medication, follow-up, and what happens if you need to stay longer or return.

• Ask how many gluteal implant operations the surgeon does. Not body procedures in general. This one is specific and less common than it looks online.
• Ask about their wound complication rate. A surgeon who quotes a rate and describes how they manage it is being straight with you.
• Ask to see results at least a year old. Implants flatter most on the day of surgery and tell the truth a year later.
• Ask whether they would recommend fat instead. A surgeon willing to send you toward a different operation is assessing rather than selling.
• Ask who is available after you go home. Named contact, response time, and in which language.
