Nose Reshaping Recovery Time

It is common to feel slight pain in your nose and experience a nosebleed in the week following the surgery. You will need to spend one night in the hospital to monitor your condition. Complete recovery will take many months after the surgery and at least six months before the swelling completely fades.

It would be best to avoid demanding activities, smoking, and blowing your nose. Follow your doctor's septorhinoplasty recovery instructions to avoid any complications.

How is Septorhinoplasty Procedure Performed?

Septorhinoplasty surgery primarily focuses on treating your breathing problem and improving the nose aesthetically. The surgery will focus on treating deviation in the nasal septum and any obstruction affecting the nasal airway.

The surgeon separates the cartilage and the bone to reshape the nasal septum. Then the surgeon will apply the aesthetic enhancement to the nose.

Your surgeon will start the procedure by making small incisions on your septum, then will reposition the septum. Depending on your case, your surgeon can perform a closed septorhinoplasty by making an incision inside the nose. Or an open septorhinoplasty procedure by making an incision at the base of the nose.

In some cases, your surgeon might need to reposition the septum to straighten it and place it back. After the septum correction, the surgeon will suture the incisions. The surgeon will place an external splint to stabilize the nose position.

  • After removing the pads, the splint remains in the nose and is removed 5 to 10 days after surgery. Removal can relieve the patient, but it can cause minor pain.
  • The nasal mucosa naturally irritates after septoplasty surgery and produces a sizeable nasal discharge.
  • There may be swelling on your face for 2-3 days after surgery.
  • You will experience soreness in the nose and little nose bleeding.
  • Home care consists of elevating your head while sleeping, a light diet, medication, and nasal ointment.
  • Typically, two to four follow-ups are required two weeks after surgery and at least one final checkup three months after surgery.
  • Use the medication prescribed for pain and discomfort during the recovery period. Avoid using aspirin products or ibuprofen for two weeks after surgery. Antibiotics will also be given during the recovery period.
  •  If you develop fever, sudden severe nasal pain, or abnormal bleeding during this process, you should call your doctor.
