Ask whether the surgeon is board certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery, or in ear, nose and throat surgery with facial plastic training, and how much of their practice is nasal. In many countries cosmetic surgeon is not a protected title, so ask what the certification actually is.

Septorhinoplasty: 1 week post-op

The first week is the most demanding. Swelling peaks in the first two to three days and bruising often extends under both eyes. • Breathing that does not improve as much as hoped, and the possibility of revision surgery

• Complete the pre-operative tests and disclose your full medical history. Blood tests and any imaging should be sent ahead so results are reviewed before you travel. Include previous nasal surgery or injury, allergies, clotting problems, sleep apnoea, and every medication and supplement you take.
• Stop nicotine, and pause blood thinners only on medical advice.
