Emax crowns in Turkey

Most crown decisions come down to three materials. Emax is a pressed lithium disilicate ceramic. Zirconia is a denser ceramic used where bite forces are highest. Porcelain fused to metal sets a ceramic layer over a metal substructure. They differ in how light passes through them, how much load they tolerate, and where in the mouth each one performs best.

In practice the choice follows position in the mouth. Emax is usually chosen where the crown will be visible, because opaque materials cannot match how it handles light. Cost is where most people start, but it is not the only thing that differs. Dental work for international patients is concentrated here, so someone comparing options has a real field to choose from rather than one or two candidates, and clinics compete on turnaround as well as on price.

Many of the larger clinics run their ceramic laboratory on the premises. That matters for scheduling more than for anything else: when the lab is in the building, the gap between preparing a tooth and fitting the finished crown is measured in days instead of weeks. Ask at consultation whether the laboratory is in house, because the answer sets how long the stay has to be.

Instalment plans run through financing partners, and the terms depend on the country you live in. Short plans are interest free. Longer plans carry interest, at a rate set by the lender and the amount borrowed. Limits and rates differ by market and change over time, so the figures quoted at application are the ones that apply. Treatment runs across two stages. Measurements and imaging come first, the tooth is then prepared and the crown made, and the finished crown is cemented at a second appointment. Most cases complete within a single trip when the clinic has its own laboratory.

Consultation with the dentist

The dentist examines the tooth and decides whether a crown is the right restoration, and whether Emax is the right material for that position. If the consultation is remote you will be asked for photographs of your teeth and for your dental history. Raise any grinding or clenching habit at this point, because it changes the material recommendation.

Treatment plan

The dentist sets out which teeth are being treated, the material for each, the number of appointments and the time between them. This is the stage at which to ask what the quoted figure covers.

Preparing the tooth

X rays check the tooth and jawbone for decay or infection that has to be treated first. The dentist then reduces the tooth to make room for the crown and takes a digital scan. A temporary crown protects the tooth while the permanent one is made.

Fitting the crown

The laboratory presses and finishes the crown to the scan. At the second appointment the dentist checks the fit, the shade and the bite, adjusts if needed, and cements the crown in place.

A crown is a low risk procedure, but complications do occur. A crown made too thin can chip or fracture under load.

Discomfort and sensitivity

The crowned tooth is often sensitive once the anaesthetic wears off. Where the tooth still has a live nerve, sensitivity to heat and cold can persist for a few weeks before settling.

Loose crown

The cement layer under a crown can break down over time. A loose crown lets bacteria reach the tooth underneath and cause decay, so it needs re-cementing rather than leaving.

Crown coming off

Decay under a loose crown will eventually let it come away entirely. Keep the crown, avoid chewing on that side, and see a dentist. A crown that comes off intact can often be re-cemented.

A dark line at the gum margin

Emax contains no metal, so a dark line at the gum is not a metal edge showing through. It appears when the gum recedes and exposes the prepared tooth beneath the crown, or when a discoloured root shows through the translucent ceramic. The effect is cosmetic rather than functional, and it is usually corrected by replacing the crown with the margin set differently.
