Septorhinoplasty Recovery Time

It is common to feel slight pain in your nose and have a nosebleed in the week following the surgery. You will need to spend one night in the hospital to monitor your condition. Complete recovery will take many months after the surgery.

It would be best to avoid demanding activities, smoking, and blowing your nose. Follow your doctor's septorhinoplasty recovery day-by-day instructions to avoid any complications.

Success Rate

Septorhinoplasty surgery has a success rate of 90%.

How is The Procedure Performed?

Once you are anesthetized, your surgeon will start the procedure by making small incisions on your septum, then will reposition the septum. Your surgeon might need to remove the septum to straighten it and place it back in some cases. After the septum correction, the surgeon will suture the incisions.

Depending on your case, your surgeon can perform a closed septorhinoplasty procedure by making an incision inside the nose. Or an open septorhinoplasty procedure by making an incision at the base of the nose.

Septorhinoplasty Complications

  • General anesthetic risks
  • Changes in the shape of your nose
  • Bleeding
  • Septum damage (a septal perforation)
  • Reduced sense of smell
  • Infections
  • Excessive scarring
  • Numbness of the tip of the nose or upper incisors
  • An accumulation of blood around the surgical site (septal hematoma)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How long does it take to recover from Septorhinoplasty?

Most people experience recovery in 1 - 2 months after the septorhinoplasty surgery. But you will need to regularly check in with your doctor and expect to see full results in 1 year.

Is a Septorhinoplasty painful?

You will experience discomforts like a stuffy nose and puffy feeling, and slight pressure from the nose split. But your doctor will prescribe medication to manage after-surgery symptoms.

What's the difference between Septorhinoplasty and rhinoplasty (septorhinoplasty vs. rhinoplasty)?

Septorhinoplasty treatment prioritizes treating breathing issues caused by a deviated septum, then enhancing the nose aesthetic look once breathing issues are treated. But rhinoplasty purely focuses on improving the nose's aesthetic appeal.

Is septorhinoplasty surgery abroad affordable?

In general, yes the procedure will be more affordable abroad and cost less in popular medical tourism locations like Turkey. But there are some factors that affect the septorhinoplasty price like the location of the clinics, the surgeon's experience, and the technique used.
