Patients who have good general health and may stop smoking at least for a while before and after the forehead contouring surgery may be the right candidate for the operation. The doctors will give the final decision about candidacy.

While preparing for forehead contouring surgery, patients should stop smoking, and avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory medicines, and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding.

There are 3 main types of forehead contouring procedures:

  • Implantation procedure can be performed with different materials such as injectable material, fat graft or permanent implants at the mid-forehead area to improve the curve of the forehead profile.
  • Bone shaving procedure can be performed above the eye area to reduce the bone. The incision is made on the scalp behind the hairline. Sometimes, shaving may be combined with a dermal filler to create a smoother and more feminine appearance.
  • Bone contouring can be performed for bone compression at the outer table of the frontal bone in front of the frontal air sinus.

After the surgery, patients will have sutures that need to be removed at about 1 week. At this time, there may be some swelling and bruising around the eyes. However, they usually disappear in 7 to 10 days. Using ice packs may minimize the discomfort. During the recovery period, patients should keep their heads and neck elevated, especially while sleeping. Following the surgeon's instructions is of paramount importance during forehead contouring recovery.

These are the risks and complications related to forehead contouring: Sinus damage Bleeding Scarring Inflammation Infection Allergic reactions to local anesthetic

Numbness and loss of sensation in the forehead are some of the most common side effects. However, they usually reduce quickly and there is nothing to worry about

Forehead contouring is a procedure with high satisfaction rates; 83 % of the patients reported their satisfaction.

Since the incision is made at the hairline, forehead contouring scars will be minimal and fade over time. Within a month, the signs of forehead contouring surgery become unnoticed. The incision site will continue to heal and, in some cases, may appear as a thin red line. But when done by a skilled surgeon, it is usually not even visible.
