Nose tip surgery or tip plasty is a safe and less invasive plastic surgery procedure, but as with any surgery, some precautions should be taken into account. Individuals suffering from severe health conditions such as heart problems, lung disease, or morbid obesity may not be the ideal candidate for this operation. Children and adolescents cannot have tip plasty because their physical development is not over. Some patients may require a full rhinoplasty instead of a tip rhinoplasty.

How long should you stay in the hospital after the surgery?

You may spend one night in the hospital after the procedure to monitor your status.

How long is the surgery?

The procedure normally takes 1 to 4 hours

Patients should avoid any blood thinners such as aspirin, vitamins, herbal supplements, or herbal teas for at least 2 weeks before going in for nose tip surgery. As smoking can have a negative impact on the tip plasty surgery result, patients should stop smoking at least a month before and after surgery.

There are two main types of rhinoplasty: Closed rhinoplasty and open rhinoplasty. Depending on the patient's wishes, the doctor may opt for one or the other, but for nose tip surgery, only the open technique can be used. In the case of anesthesia, there are two options that the surgeon can choose for this surgery: general anesthesia and local anesthesia. Once the anesthesia has started, the surgeon can proceed to make an incision in the columella. A cartilage graft may be required for the tip plasty. The surgeon then begins to change and reshape the cartilage, skin, and other nasal tissues according to the patient's wishes, expectations, and general facial features.

Once the desired result is achieved, the surgeon will close the incision by using stitches, and then bandages are applied to the area. The tip plasty recovery period can begin. In some cases, tip plasty and anaplasty for alar base reduction are performed together.

The recovery time of the tip plasty lasts about 2 weeks. Patients usually return to work within about a week, but contact exercises and activities should be avoided for up to 4 weeks. In some patients, it may be necessary to wear a nasal splint during the period of healing.

Tip plasty surgery is a safe procedure but complications can occur in some cases. Tip plasty surgery complications can include:

  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • A small scar on the columella

Difficult breathing during the tip rhinoplasty healing time

Some patients may require revision surgery after tip plasty

Patients can feel some pain during the recovery period. Swelling and bruising can also be seen, but postoperative side effects spontaneously decrease and disappear within a few days. The swelling will be sufficiently reduced in around 4 weeks after nose tip surgery.

The average nose tip surgery satisfaction rate is around 90%.

Nose tip surgery is a reliable and safe way of turning the nose tip into a more pleasant and attractive shape. It is of vital importance to comply strictly with the doctor's instructions throughout the process. Patients need to follow guidelines thoroughly and stop smoking at least a month before and after the nose tip surgery.

Rhinoplasty vs. Tip Plasty – What is the Difference?

Rhinoplasty surgery can be performed in order to modify several structures of the nose, including the radix, bridge, and also tip. A tip plasty procedure can only aim to improve the shape or size of the nasal tip.

What Are the Advantages to Tip Plasty?

Nose tip surgery has different advantages, including:

  • Less bruising and swelling than the whole rhinoplasty after the procedure
  • Lower possibility of developing risks and complications
  • Low chance of damaging other structures such as the septum
  • Shorter recovery period

How Old Do I Have to Be for Tip Plasty?

To be the right candidate for the surgery depends on many factors apart from age but generally speaking, boys can have tip plasty once they reach 17 and girls should be at around 16. Because the nose should reach full size before the surgery.

When can I get back to work after the surgery?

Expect to get back to work in a week.
