The Benefit of Sinus Lift Abroad

If you don't have sufficient bone heights in your jaw and your bone graft is low and narrow, you will need a sinus lift. Not all patients will need a sinus lift procedure, but your dentist might suggest you do a sinus lift if you consider dental implants. Sinus lift abroad surgery is a procedure that precedes dental implants.

Dental patients are constantly seeking opportunities to reduce the cost of dental treatment. The cost of treatment in their local country can be expensive. Many patients decide on having a sinus lift abroad because it's an affordable option.

There are other appeals to have sinus lift procedure abroad:

Affordable cost

A patient's insurance doesn't cover sinus lift surgery because it is labeled under cosmetic surgery. Financial reasons motivate patients to seek treatment abroad.

Excellent dentist

Renowned institutions with international accreditations have top-class dentists, and they are trained and with years of experience in cosmetic dentistry. You can evaluate their experience based on the awards and credentials on their website or the clinic website.

Spend your recovery period in a stress-free luxury environment

Some patients prefer an agency to plan their treatment abroad. It gives you relief to focus on your recovery. The agency will prepare a customized trip that fits your needs. The package will include flight, accommodation, and airport transfer.

Treatment that's worth your money

Finding a specialist abroad will be more cost-effective than visiting an amateur doctor in your local country.

Tips For Choosing The Best Sinus Lift Clinic Abroad

  • Create a shortlist of possible clinics abroad:  research the clinic you plan to visit overseas. Most reputable clinics will have an official website, and you can examine the dentist's expertise, reviews, and credentials.
  • Check the local regulation: It is essential to know how dental treatment is regulated in your chosen country. This will help you identify reputable clinics registered with the governing body or national association. It will also tell you about your rights.
  • Prepare a list of questions for your doctor: prepare a list of questions to ensure you receive quality treatment. Common questions to ask - do they provide a translator? Do they have patients' testimonials? Is the clinic registered with the national association?
  • Trust your instincts:  This personal element should not be underestimated since dental treatment can be quite traumatic for many people, mainly when undertaken in a foreign country and in unfamiliar surroundings. For this reason, you should trust your instincts as much as the raw data. If a clinic feels wrong, then walk away.
  • Verify the surgeon's experience. Ask about the surgeon's education, additional fellowship training, and how many times they performed the treatment.
  • Schedule an online consultation. Most clinics or hospitals that work with international patients offer this service.
  • Research the condition of the clinic before booking. It's recommended to visit the clinic before booking and finalizing the procedure. Talk to the staff and past patients if possible.
  • Ask what's the follow-up steps after the surgery and aftercare procedure steps.
  • Choose the right dentist, do your due diligence, and enquire.
  • Plan your trip well, and give yourself time to rest after the treatment.

Ideal Candidate for Sinus Lift Abroad

If you're healthy and suffer from insufficient jawbone density to perform a dental implant procedure, you're ideal for a sinus lift.

A sinus lift procedure is not recommended for the following categories of patients:

  • Patients who use tobacco excessively
  • Patients with severe allergic rhinitis
  • Chronic topical steroid use
  • Patients with tumors in the sinus
  • Patients suffering from a sinus infection
  • Radiation therapy can have a negative effect on the sinus lift procedure. Patients undergoing radiation therapy should postpone the sinus lift procedure until the body has fully healed

What's The Duration of Sinus Lift Surgery Abroad?

90 to 120 minutes.

How Is Sinus Lift Surgery Performed?

Patients need to undergo several testing phases before the sinus lift surgery can be performed. The role of these tests is to determine the health of the patient's sinuses. Most of the time, these tests include x-rays of the sinuses and upper jaws before leaving for treatment. CT scans can also be recommended by doctors in order to get a better understanding of the sinus's height and width.

The procedure begins with the dental surgeon administering the patient a local anesthetic. Once the anesthetic kicks in, an incision is created into the upper gum tissue, right beneath the sinus area. The gum tissue is raised, and the upper jaw bone is exposed.

The dental surgeon then creates a small window right into the bone, exposing the sinus membrane. The sinus membrane is pushed up, with bone graft material tightly packed into the newly created space.

What Are The Types of Sinus Lift Surgery?

Sinus lift surgery can use different types of bone graft materials, including:

  • Biomaterials
  • Autogenous bone - a bone graft from the patient
  • A combination of both

Once the bone graft material is introduced into the cavity, the dental surgeon will close the incision with stitches. Over time, the new bone graft material will begin merging with the patient's natural bone tissue.

What To Expect After Sinus Lift Surgery?

For most patients, the average sinus lift recovery experience involves dealing with swelling in the gum tissue around the incision area. Bleeding from the mouth or nose is also common during the first few weeks after the procedure. Blowing your nose or sneezing needs to be avoided as the stitches can get loose, and the bone graft material can move inside the sinus cavity.

Most patients use antibacterial mouthwashes, antibiotics, and painkillers during the recovery period. After performing the sinus lift for a dental implant, the body needs time to heal properly. After five to nine months pass, the implants can be placed in the jaw.

In some cases, the dental implant procedure and sinus lift procedure may be performed simultaneously, but it depends on the patient’s existing bone structure.
