It’s very
normal to feel nervous when you’re about to have surgery. But when you know
what to expect, you feel a bit relaxed. This is the reason why
surgeons brief patients or their next kins about how the procedure is
performed. Patients are advised to discuss their medical history with their
doctors and they should be prepared to go for medical tests. Most surgeries are
performed while the patient is under local or general anesthesia –but this
usually depends on the complexity of the surgery or the age of the patient.
When having general surgery, expect a group of doctors
and nurses to work together from the beginning to the end of the operation.
Each surgical procedure comes with its own specific team of doctors and nurses.
But if you are to have surgery in one of our partner hospitals, your team will
have these professionals:
Surgeon. This doctor is at the forefront of the team and
he/she is the one with the final say of how the op shapes up. All surgeons from
our partner hospitals passed both the national and international surgical board
exam.
Anesthesiologist. This doctor is responsible for giving patients
meds that make them feel comfortable and pain-free during the surgery.
Certified
registered nurse anesthetist. This
nurse assists the anesthesiologist by monitoring the patient before, during and
after the operation.
Surgical
tech. As the name suggests, the
surgical technician sets up the tools your surgeon will use and makes sure they're
sterilized and ready.
Operating room nurse. This nurse assists your surgeon during the procedure. In most cases, they are responsible for passing instruments and supplies during the surgery.
