A neck lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that aims to make the neck skin smooth by removing wrinkles and fat deposits. After having this surgery, your neck will definitely have a younger appearance that will last for years.
For your online consultation, we will kindly ask you to send your photos as shown in the Photography Guide down below, so we can evaluate your case.
A neck lift is usually performed while the patient is under general anesthesia. Surgeons require patients to follow all the pre-surgery guidelines so as to ensure the success of the procedure.
It usually takes 3 hours to complete the whole neck lift surgery, this, of course, depends on the complexity of the surgery.
If you decide to undergo this surgery, rest assured that we will make sure that you have a pleasant trip and the procedure will be customized to suit your preferences, goals as well as the clinic’s practices. Below is an outline of what to expect when you choose to have this procedure.
When you arrive at the clinic, you will have a face-to-face consultation with your neck lift specialist surgeon. During this session you are expected to inform the surgeon about your medical record, allergies, and if you’re currently taking any medication.
Even after telling your surgeon about your medical record, it’s mandatory that you go through some medical tests. Afterward, you will discuss the procedure in detail. If you are on the same page with your surgeon, he/she will make an illustration by drawing some marks on your face as he/she prepares you for the surgery.
When the test results are out and your surgeon is satisfied, you will be then given anesthesia. Surgeons usually prefer general anesthesia, but sometimes they can administer local anesthesia or sedation. Your surgeon will choose the best anesthesia for you.
Once the anesthesia comes into effect, the surgeon will then begin performing the procedure. Depending on the changes you’d like to see on your neck, you have two neck lift choices: a traditional neck lift incision or a limited incision neck lift.
Suppose your surgeon opts for the traditional neck lift, expect it to be made from the hairline at the level of sideburn, and it continues down, around the ear and it ends in the posterior hair.
But when it’s a limited incision neck lift, incisions will also only be made around the ear and they will be a bit shorter. Either way, when incisions are made, fat deposits will be redistributed from the jowls and neck. The tissues underlying the neck skin will be repositioned as the platysma muscle is tightened.
You should minimize your facial movements (smiling, chewing, yawning, talking, etc.) for the first few days.
Once the postoperative bandages are removed, you may begin to take a shower. You should wash your hair and your face gently with sensitive products recommended by your surgeon.
Post-operative bruising and swelling may persist for 10 days. You can also experience numbness around the incisions.
You should use the medications which will be given to you by your surgeon.
You should avoid using alcohol, aspirin, and ibuprofen for one week after the surgery.
Daily activities can be gradually resumed after two weeks. You may resume your exercise routine after four weeks.
The skin of your face will be very sensitive to sunlight after neck lift surgery; therefore, you need to protect your skin with sunscreen. You should also avoid saunas and steam baths for four weeks after your surgery.
You should also adjust your sleeping position to avoid damaging the incisions.
Recovery from the neck lifting procedure takes several weeks. It is very important to follow your surgeon's post-operative instructions and to inform your surgeon about any unexpected changes you have observed and experienced discomfort.
A week before the procedure, you should stop taking Aspirin and any other meds associated with blood thinning.
If you are allergic to any drugs, you should inform your surgeon as soon as possible.
Patients are advised to avoid smoking 24 hours before the surgery.
Consuming any alcoholic beverages can affect anesthesia. So you should not take in anything alcoholic 24 hours prior to surgery.
If you are taking meds for chronic or acute diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, you should inform your surgeon before the surgery commences.
