Piezo Rhinoplasty Recovery Time

Recovery is faster with the piezo technique. Because it does not damage the soft tissue surrounding blood vessels and cartilage. You can return to your daily life faster. 

In the first week, you will notice significantly less bruising and swelling than in traditional rhinoplasty techniques. The nose will be covered with a splint to keep the nasal bone in position. It will be removed after the first week.

In the second week after surgery, swelling and bruising begin to fade. You may return to work and social activities at this stage. But avoid demanding activities for 3 to 6 weeks.

About a month after the surgery, you'll look and feel healed. After 2-3 months, you may still feel numbness at the tip of the nose. This is normal and gradually begins to fade. The swelling will go away over the next 6 months after the surgery. Seeing the final result of the surgery may take up to a year.

How Does It Work?

Piezo rhinoplasty is the technical name for ultrasonic rhinoplasty. The procedure uses ultrasonic energy to reshape the nasal bones. Compared to the traditional method that used a hammer and chisel.

Piezotome is the instrument used to generate ultrasonic energy (a frequency of 25 to 29 kHz) to cut and shape the nasal bones. It reduces bleeding, bruising, and swelling and gives faster recovery.

The piezo device for the rhinoplasty procedure is more precise when carving the bone. And doesn't damage the surrounding soft tissue like skin, mucosa, and flimsy cartilages.

What Does Piezo Rhinoplasty Surgery Involve?

Anesthesia

The Surgical Process

What Should I Expect After Piezo Rhinoplasty Surgery?

The recovery process will take several weeks, and you may feel pain or discomfort in the first two days. But your doctor will prescribe pain relievers that will help ease the pain. After the surgery, you will spend the first night at the hospital under your doctor's supervision.

First Week After the Surgery

During the first week after the procedure, you may feel uncomfortable, and you're expected to:

• Wear a splint on your nose
• Feel sore and experience breathing difficulties.
• Wear a compression bandage under your nose to soak up any fluid or blood
• Experience discomfort inside your nose
• Have swelling for the first 3 days
• Notice some minor bruises.

Second Week After the Surgery

In the second week, you will have to follow up with a doctor and remove your splint. During this period, you can expect the following:

• The dissolvable sutures will start to disappear
• Swelling and bruises on your nose will begin to disappear.
• Your appearance will gradually get back to normal, and you can make public appearances.
• You can return to work in the second week (that is, if your job doesn't involve physical activities).
• The incision will start to shrink and become smaller.

Third Week After the Surgery

From this stage onwards, you will begin to notice the surgery results. Here is what you should expect:

• The swelling will be minor, and you will see subtle changes. 
• Your incision will be slightly reddish, but it can easily be covered using makeup. You can start exercising.

Week Four and After 

A month after the surgery, most of the swelling will fade. In six months up to a year, you can expect to see the final results.
