Chin Augmentation Recovery Time

You will follow a medication plan to reduce the pain. Before you're discharged, your doctor will provide you with the instruction you need to speed up your recovery. You will need to sleep face-up with your head tilted up for the first two weeks.

You can expect to return to demanding activities 3 - 4 weeks after the surgery. Expect to see results and experience full recovery after three months.

How Does t Work?

Chin augmentation procedure is a cosmetic procedure also known as genioplasty. It enhances the shape and size of the chin. It can be invasive with a surgical approach or non-invasive using injectable fillers. 

The procedure is performed on outpatients under general and local anesthesia with a sedative. Your chin augmentation specialist will incise under the chin or inside the mouth to place the implant.

Typically, chin augmentation surgeries take one hour, but it will take longer if other cosmetic procedures are performed.

Types of Chin Fillers 

The most common jaw fillers your doctor may use include:

• hyaluronic acid (Restylane Lyft and Juvederm Voluma or Volux)
• calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) (Radiesse)

There are several types of dermal filler your doctor might recommend for the jaw and chin. But currently, the only FDA-approved filler for jaw and chin augmentation is Juvederm Volux.

What Does Chin Augmentation Surgery Involve?

2. Medical Examination

3. Anesthesia 

Your surgeon will give you general and local anesthesia with a sedative. 

4. The surgery 

Your surgeon will choose the appropriate incision based on your case; then, your surgeon will make small incisions under the chin or inside the mouth to place the implant. 

Your surgeon may insert the implant around the chin and close the incision. Your doctor will place a chin strap dressing after the surgery to hold the implant position and limit the chin movement.

What Should I Expect After Chin Augmentation Treatment?

• After the surgery, it is normal to feel discomfort and experience minor bruises and inflammation on the chin and face. It will fade after a few days. 

• After three weeks you can return to sports activities, but you should practice light and moderate exercises. 

• The treated area will be slightly inflamed for the first week. 

• Some patients might report that their chin feels numb for three months after the operation, although this is a rare case.

• You will be given a chin strap dressing to wear when you lie down or sleep for the first few weeks after the operation to hold the implant position.

• Chin augmentation results are immediate, and you will notice a significant change in the shape and size of your chin right after the surgery. 

Things You Should Consider Before Chin Augmentation

• A week before the surgery, you should stop taking Aspirin and any other medicine associated with blood thinning.

• If you are allergic to any drugs, you should inform your surgeon as early as you can

• It is best to avoid smoking 24 hours before the surgery.

• Consuming any alcoholic beverages can affect anesthesia. It would help if you didn't take in alcohol 24 hours before the surgery.

• If you are taking medicine for chronic or acute diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, you should inform your surgeon before the surgery.

How long does chin augmentation last?

Suppose you decide to have a silicone chin implant and expect the change to last a lifetime. But with non-surgical chin methods like injectable fillers, the results will last between six to twelve months, depending on the type of fillers and how your body will absorb the fillers.

Does chin augmentation improve jawline?

If you feel your chin proportions are asymmetrical to your face features, chin augmentation will help to improve the neck and jawline.

Is chin augmentation painful?
