Brazilian butt lift in Thailand

A Brazilian butt lift, or BBL, in Thailand is priced by the clinic, not by the country, and the quote depends on how many areas are liposuctioned, whether the operation happens in a hospital or a day clinic, and how many nights, massages and hotel days are bundled with it. This page explains what Thai clinics mean by a BBL, the one technical question that matters more than the price, how the Bangkok and Phuket clinics in our listing quote, what the trip and the flight home involve when you cannot sit for weeks, and for whom Thailand makes more sense than Turkey, Mexico or Colombia. The general Brazilian butt lift guide covers the operation itself; this page is about having it in Thailand.

What Thai clinics mean by a Brazilian butt lift

A Brazilian butt lift is two operations in one sitting: liposuction of the waist, back, abdomen or thighs, then the injection of the cleaned fat into the buttocks and hips to add volume and reshape the profile. Nothing is lifted in the surgical sense and no implant is placed. Thai clinics use the same abbreviation the rest of the world uses, BBL, but their price lists also carry buttock augmentation, fat grafting to the buttocks and lipofilling, which are the same operation under other names. Several other things are sold next to it, and a "butt lift" enquiry can quietly turn into any of them, so the first thing to settle with a clinic is which operation is being quoted.

What the clinic calls itWhat it is
Brazilian butt lift, buttock fat transfer, lipofillingLiposuction plus your own fat injected into the buttocks and hips
Skinny BBLThe same operation on a slim patient, with fat gathered from several small areas
Lipo 360 with BBLLiposuction of the whole waistline, front, sides and back, with the fat used for the buttocks
Buttock implantsSilicone implants placed in or over the muscle, for people with too little fat to transfer
Surgical butt liftSkin and tissue removed and tightened after major weight loss, with little or no added volume
Non-surgical butt liftInjectable fillers or collagen stimulators, smaller and shorter-lived changes

If your frame is slim and the question is whether there is enough fat to work with, the Thailand skinny BBL page covers that version. If the waistline is the main goal and the buttocks come second, start with the Thailand lipo 360 page. If loose skin after weight loss is the problem rather than volume, the operation you want is on the Thailand butt lift page, and the general Thailand fat transfer page covers grafting to other parts of the body.

Who reads this page, and for whom Thailand makes sense

Most readers of this page are in the United States, then Australia, the United Kingdom and New Zealand, with a steady share already living in Thailand, Singapore or Malaysia. They arrive with the same questions: how much a BBL costs in Thailand, whether it is a good idea to have it there, and how Thailand compares with Turkey, Mexico and Colombia. The listing below shows the clinics that treat international patients, with the treatment-only price each publishes.

Thailand makes the most sense when you are already in Asia or flying from Australia or New Zealand, when you can stay long enough for the follow-up visits, and when you want the operation done in a hospital rather than a day clinic, which is easier to arrange in Bangkok than in many other destinations. It makes less sense for someone flying from the United States or the United Kingdom who wants the shortest possible trip: the flight home is the hard part of a BBL, because you cannot sit on the result for weeks, and Mexico and Colombia are a few hours from the American east and west coasts while Turkey is a short flight from Britain and Europe. The Brazilian butt lift in Turkey, Brazilian butt lift in Colombia and Brazilian butt lift in Mexico pages compare the same points from the other side.

The question that matters more than the price

The BBL has a risk that other cosmetic operations do not. When fat is injected into or beneath the gluteal muscle, it can enter the large veins that run through that muscle and travel to the lungs, a fat embolism, and that is how the deaths that gave the operation its reputation happened. The response of the American and British plastic surgery societies was to advise injecting fat only into the layer above the muscle, with a wide cannula, and many surgeons now use ultrasound during the operation to confirm where the tip of the cannula is. Ask every clinic you consider, in writing, whether the surgeon injects above the muscle only and whether ultrasound guidance is used, and treat a vague answer as a no.

  • Ask whether the operation takes place in a hospital with an anaesthesiologist in the room and an intensive care unit in the building, or in a clinic operating theatre with a hospital on call. Both exist in Bangkok, and the quote should say which.
  • Ask how many BBLs the named surgeon performs, whether that surgeon does the liposuction and the injection personally, and who operates if the surgeon is unavailable on the day.
  • Ask what happens if you need to be seen in the first weeks after you get home, and whether the clinic has a surgeon or hospital it works with in your country.
  • Ask for the earliest date the clinic will let you fly, in writing, and what the clinic requires of you on that flight. This is the number that decides how long the trip really is.

Where the fat comes from, and how much you need

The volume of a BBL is limited by the fat you have to spare, not by what you want. Surgeons harvest from the abdomen, the flanks, the lower back and sometimes the thighs and arms, clean the fat of blood and fluid, and inject it in many small passes so that each drop of fat is close to a blood supply. A share of the transferred fat is always reabsorbed in the first months, so the surgeon overfills slightly and the final shape settles later, which is why the result at the first follow-up visit is not the result you will keep.

Thai surgeons quote the operation around the liposuction, because that is where the work and the risk sit. A BBL with liposuction of the abdomen and flanks is a different operation from a BBL with lipo 360, which takes the whole waistline, and different again from one that also treats the thighs. The number of areas is the first thing that moves the price, the second is where the operation is done, and the third is how long you stay in hospital afterwards.

BBL on a slim frame: proportion over volume

A large share of the people who reach this page are looking for what a BBL looks like on a slim or Asian frame, and that is a question Thai surgeons answer every week, because most of their patients are slim. The aesthetic they generally work to is proportion rather than volume: a smoother line from the waist into the hip, the hollows at the side of the hip filled, a modest lift of the upper buttock, rather than the exaggerated projection associated with the operation in parts of the United States. With less donor fat, the surgeon gathers it from several small areas, or asks you to gain a little weight before the trip, or proposes a smaller change now and a second session later. If the fat is genuinely not there, a good clinic says so and talks about implants or nothing at all; a clinic that promises a large result on a slim frame is promising fat it cannot find.

What a BBL costs in Thailand, and why the quotes differ so much

Every clinic in the listing sets its own price, and the ones that publish one show it with a "Treatment only" chip. Treatment only means the surgeon, the anaesthesia, the theatre and the standard liposuction areas; it does not mean the extra areas, the hospital nights beyond the first, the compression garment, the lymphatic massage course, the hotel, the transfers or a revision. The spread between the lowest and the highest published price in our listing is wide, and most of it is explained by what is inside the quote rather than by one clinic being cheaper for the same operation. So the honest answer to "how much is a BBL in Thailand" is the clinic's treatment-only price plus whatever your case adds, and the only figure worth comparing is a written quote for your own body, your own liposuction areas and the length of stay the clinic requires.

What moves the priceWhich way
Liposuction areasAbdomen and flanks alone cost less than lipo 360, thighs or arms added
Hospital or day clinicA hospital theatre, an anaesthesiologist and a night on the ward cost more than a clinic bed
SurgeonA senior surgeon who does the whole operation personally quotes higher than a team
Nights in hospitalEach extra night is charged; some clinics keep BBL patients two nights
Garment and massageSometimes included, sometimes a separate line, rarely free
Hotel and transfersInside a package or on your own bill

Packages with a hotel

Some Bangkok and Phuket clinics sell the BBL as a package with hotel nights, airport and clinic transfers, the garment, the massage course and the follow-up visits. A package is easier to budget and harder to compare, so ask for the same quote split into its lines: what the operation costs on its own, what the hotel nights cost, and what happens to the price if the surgeon adds a liposuction area on the day of the consultation. Compare packages at the same number of nights, because a longer stay is a real cost and the clinic's earliest-flight date sets it.

Insurance, complications and paying in instalments

No health insurer pays for a cosmetic BBL, at home or abroad, and ordinary travel insurance excludes elective surgery and its complications. Ask the clinic what its own complication cover includes, in writing, and consider a medical travel policy that covers complications of planned surgery, because being admitted to a Bangkok hospital for an infection or a clot after the operation is your bill otherwise. Flymedi's payment plans page explains the instalment options that some clinics accept.

Bangkok or Phuket

Almost all the BBL clinics in our listing are in Bangkok, and the rest are in Phuket. Our listing has no BBL clinic in Chiang Mai, Pattaya or Hua Hin, so if you find a quote there you are comparing it against a clinic we have not verified.

Bangkok

Bangkok is where the hospitals are. The Bangkok side of the listing runs from large private hospitals such as Yanhee, Phyathai, Bumrungrad and Wansiri, through hospitals built around cosmetic surgery such as Kamol, Asia Cosmetic, Masterpiece and Lelux, to smaller surgeon-led clinics such as ID Clinic and DGB Clinic. A hospital adds an anaesthesiologist, a ward and intensive care on the same site, which matters for a BBL more than for a smaller operation; a clinic adds a lower price and often more time with the surgeon. Bangkok also has the direct flights, the hotels near the hospitals and the massage therapists who do post-liposuction lymphatic drainage all day, and it is where most of the clinic-name searches that reach this page point.

Phuket

Phuket has a few clinics that treat international patients for BBLs, and most people who choose it want to recover near the beach rather than in a city. Recovery after a BBL is not a beach holiday: you cannot sit, swim or sunbathe on the result for weeks, and the humidity makes garment hygiene harder. Phuket makes sense if you already live there or plan a long, quiet stay in a villa with help; it makes less sense for a short trip, because a complication in the first days is easier to handle in a Bangkok hospital.

How a BBL in Thailand is done, step by step

  1. An online consultation with photographs, your weight, your medical history and the areas you want liposuctioned. The clinic tells you whether there is enough fat, what it proposes and what it will cost.
  2. Arrival in Thailand, usually a day or two before the operation, for blood tests, a meeting with the surgeon and the anaesthesiologist, and the markings.
  3. Liposuction of the agreed areas under general anaesthesia, or deep sedation in some clinics, through small incisions in the skin folds.
  4. The harvested fat is separated from blood and fluid and prepared for injection.
  5. The fat is injected into the buttocks and hips above the muscle, in many small passes and from several small incisions, until the planned shape is reached.
  6. The compression garment goes on in theatre, and you spend the first night, or two, in the hospital or clinic with drains if the surgeon uses them.
  7. Follow-up visits over the next days and weeks, the massage course, and the clinic's clearance to fly.

The at-a-glance card near the top of this page shows a typical operation time; a BBL with lipo 360 sits at the long end of it. Nothing about the operation is done in one day: the earliest a clinic will see you off is after the first follow-up visits, and most ask you to stay in Thailand for around two weeks.

Who is a candidate, and who should not fly for it

  • You have enough spare fat on the abdomen, flanks, back or thighs to give the buttocks a visible change, and a stable weight you can hold afterwards.
  • You are a non-smoker, or will stop well before the trip and stay stopped, because nicotine reduces the share of fat that survives and slows the liposuction wounds.
  • You can arrange the recovery honestly: weeks without sitting directly on the buttocks, someone with you for the first days, and a flight home that you can spend on your side or standing.
  • You are not a candidate if you want a large change on a slim frame, if you have a clotting disorder or a recent thrombosis, if you are planning pregnancy soon, or if you cannot take the time the clinic asks for.
  • If loose skin is the problem, or you have lost a great deal of weight, the Thailand plastic surgery after weight loss page is the better read.

Risks and warning signs

  • Fat embolism, the serious complication specific to the BBL, avoided by injecting above the muscle and confirmed by ultrasound; sudden breathlessness or chest pain in the first days is an emergency.
  • Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, made more likely by immobility and by long flights; calf pain or swelling on one side needs a doctor the same day.
  • Infection at an incision or in the injected fat, which shows as fever, spreading redness, heat or discharge.
  • Fat necrosis, where transferred fat dies and forms firm lumps or oil cysts that may need draining.
  • Seroma, a pocket of fluid under the liposuctioned skin that needs drawing off.
  • Contour irregularities, dents or waves from the liposuction, and asymmetry between the two sides.
  • Loss of volume as more fat is reabsorbed than expected, sometimes needing a second session.
  • Numbness or altered sensation over the liposuctioned and injected areas, usually easing over months.

Recovery in Thailand and the flight home

The rule that shapes everything else is that you must not put your weight on the transferred fat while it is establishing a blood supply. That means sleeping on your stomach or side, standing and walking rather than sitting, and, when you must sit, using a BBL pillow under the thighs so that the buttocks are lifted off the seat. The compression garment stays on for weeks and is worn through the Thai heat; a second garment to change into is worth packing. Lymphatic massage, which many Thai clinics bundle, reduces the swelling from the liposuction. Walking starts on the first day and is the main protection against clots; exercise, swimming and sun on the incisions wait for the clinic's clearance.

The flight home is the part that makes a Thailand BBL different from one done a few hours from home. From Bangkok to the United States or the United Kingdom you are in the air for most of a day, and the clinic's advice will be to book an aisle seat, sit on the pillow, stand and walk often, wear the garment and compression stockings, and drink water; some surgeons ask for a lie-flat seat, which changes the cost of the trip. Australians and New Zealanders have a shorter flight, which is one reason the operation attracts them to Thailand. Whatever the route, the clinic's earliest-flight date is the number to plan around.

A few days after the operation, the fluid used for the liposuction and some blood drain from the small incisions and are caught by the garment and the pads, which is where the sour, metallic smell that people ask about comes from. It fades as the drainage stops and the garment is washed. A foul smell together with fever, spreading redness or discharge from an incision is a different thing and needs the clinic the same day.

Results, before-and-after photographs and what to ask for

The shape you see in the first weeks is swelling plus the full transferred volume; the shape you keep appears over the following months as the swelling goes and the fat that will not survive is reabsorbed. Ask any clinic for photographs of its own patients at least half a year after the operation, taken from the same angles as the before pictures, and for patients with a frame like yours, because a result on a curvier body tells you little about a slim one. After ten years, the fat that survived behaves like the fat elsewhere on your body: it grows and shrinks with your weight, and the skin over it ages like the rest of you, so the shape softens rather than disappears.

The other destination pages compare the same points in detail: Brazilian butt lift in Turkey, Brazilian butt lift in Colombia, Brazilian butt lift in Mexico, Brazilian butt lift in Hungary and Brazilian butt lift in Poland. Thailand wins on hospitals and on the long, quiet recovery; it loses on the flight home for anyone west of India.

Living in Thailand and having a BBL locally

A steady share of the readers of this page already live in Thailand, and for them the trade-offs change: follow-up is in the chair, the earliest-flight rule disappears, and the clinic can spread the liposuction and the fat transfer over a longer plan. Ask whether the clinic has one price list for Thai patients and another for international ones, which is common, and whether the surgeon who consults you is the one who operates. The listing below covers Bangkok and Phuket; the plastic surgery in Thailand page shows the other operations the same hospitals and clinics offer, and the Thailand page covers the practical side of a stay.

Frequently asked questions

Answers from the medical content team, reviewed by the medical reviewer named on this page.

How much is a BBL in Thailand?
Each clinic in the listing sets its own price, and the ones that publish one show it with a "Treatment only" chip, which covers the surgeon, the anaesthesia, the theatre and the standard liposuction areas. Extra areas, hospital nights, the garment, massages, the hotel and a revision are added on top, which is why two Thai quotes for "a BBL" can be far apart. Ask for a written quote for your own case and your required length of stay before you compare it with anything.
Is Thailand a good place to get a BBL?
Bangkok has private hospitals where the operation is done with an anaesthesiologist and intensive care on site, and surgeons who do fat transfer every week, most of it on slim patients. The quality question is about the clinic and the technique, not the country: whether fat goes above the muscle only, whether ultrasound is used, and who looks after you if something goes wrong once you are home.
Is Turkey or Thailand better for a BBL?
Neither is better as a country. Turkey is a short flight from Britain and Europe and sells the operation as a package; Thailand is closer for Australians and Asia-based patients and has more hospital-based options in Bangkok. The flight home while you cannot sit is the deciding factor for most people, and the Brazilian butt lift in Turkey page covers the Turkish side.
What do BBL packages in Thailand include?
Usually the operation, the first hospital night, the garment, a course of lymphatic massage, transfers and a set number of hotel nights, sometimes the follow-up visits. Ask for the package split into its lines so you can see what the operation costs on its own and what changes if the surgeon adds a liposuction area.
How long do I need to stay in Thailand after a BBL?
Long enough for the first follow-up visits and the clinic's clearance to fly, which most clinics set at around two weeks. Plan the trip around the date the clinic gives you in writing, not around the operation date.
How do I fly home after a BBL?
On your side or standing as much as possible, on a BBL pillow when seated, in the garment and compression stockings, walking the aisle often. Some surgeons ask for a lie-flat seat on the long routes to the United States and Britain. Ask your clinic what it requires before you book the return flight.
Can I get a skinny BBL in Thailand?
Yes, and many Thai surgeons do more skinny BBLs than large ones because their patients are slim. The Thailand skinny BBL page explains where the fat is gathered from and when a clinic will say there is not enough.
Can lipo 360 be combined with a BBL?
It is the most common combination: the whole waistline is liposuctioned and the fat goes to the buttocks and hips, which narrows the waist and adds volume in one operation. It is a longer operation with more liposuction, so the recovery and the price both rise; the Thailand lipo 360 page covers it.
Can a BBL fix hip dips?
Yes. Filling the hollows at the side of the hips is part of most BBLs and is often the change slim patients want most. It needs less fat than adding projection, which makes it possible on frames where a full BBL is not.
How does a BBL look after ten years?
The fat that survived the first months stays, grows and shrinks with your weight like fat anywhere else, and the skin over it ages with you. The shape softens over the years rather than disappearing; large weight changes and pregnancies change it more than time does.
Will I have scars after a BBL?
Small ones, at the liposuction and injection sites, placed in skin folds and at the top of the buttock crease. They fade over the first year and are usually the least visible part of the result; the contour of the liposuctioned areas matters far more than the scars.
