Abud exceeded all my expectations

Abud exceeded all my expectations for Flymedi. He was readily available to answer my questions and put my mind at ease. I was never made to feel like I asked too many questions or rushed at all, he spoke to me as if he were a long time friend. He was also very clear about everything I am going to expect on my trip, from accommodations to the procedure, down to the weather and beautiful things to see in Turkey. Abud makes things so simple and takes the stress away from traveling. I could not and most likely would not have done this without Abud and his help!

First time plastic surgery experience with FlyMedi

I contacted Flymedi about getting a breast augmentation done and I was contacted by Abud shortly thereafter who was helped me through the initial planning phase so well. Since I am coming all the way from Africa and have never traveled alone, Abud organized a video call with the surgeon to go over some of the questions I had as well as my expectations of the surgery. I am very pleased with the service so far and already feel safe about traveling to Istanbul for my surgery

Angela went above and beyond my expectations. She is very friendly and you can always feel at ease contacting her. She made sure I was comfortable with our choice of surgeon Dr. Can Karaca and set up a video call for me. Always ready to help and answer any questions (she would always be available despite the 7 hour time difference)! I wasn’t really sure about traveling to Istanbul, Turkey for my procedure until I met Angela and she explained everything from start to finish and stood behind her words to always be of assistance. Mind you I have been researching for months now for a good doctor and went back and forth between waiting 2 years to get my surgery done in Canada or even traveling to Mexico for it! I was thinking Turkey would be a difficult route due to time difference and the distance but I’m very happy I chose to go to Turkey with Flymedi and I’m glad my agent was Angela Sabou! Do not hesitate to work with Flymedi and especially request Angela if you can!!! - a very satisfied client

Recommended For Hydrocephalus Treatment

Hydrocephalus can be easily diagnosed in infants due to deformation in the head region. Since the infant’s bones are not fully attached, hydrocephalus becomes easily visible. In adults, hydrocephalus may show itself as headache and brain dysfunction. Nevertheless, an appropriate diagnosis from a neurologist is needed.

Not Recommended For Hydrocephalus Treatment

If you experience hydrocephalus symptoms such as headaches, nausea, or impaired brain function, you should see a specialist. Your doctor will decide if you have hydrocephalus or not and whether a treatment such as a brain shunting or ETV neurosurgery is needed.

Overview

Hydrocephalus is a disease caused by the accumulation of excess fluid in the brain. The accumulation of extra fluid increases the pressure level in the brain and damages this important organ. Although hydrocephalus is generally seen in children, it can also be observed in adults and especially elderly people. Currently, brain shunt and ETV neurosurgery methods are used in the treatment of hydrocephalus.

Preparation

The treatment process of hydrocephalus does not need any specific preparation. You will be asked to report any medications you have been using and any medical conditions you may have. You should stop using blood thinners such as aspirin from a few days before surgery.

How It Is Performed

Hydrocephalus treatment has two main types: Brain shunt and ETV neurosurgery.
• The brain shunt is a method of discharging excess fluid by placing a tube from the patient's brain to the stomach. This reduces pressure on the brain and increases the patient's quality of life.
• ETV brain surgery (endoscopic third ventriculostomy) is performed only for patients with obstructive hydrocephalus. Obstructive hydrocephalus occurs when the fluid in the brain cannot be removed due to obstruction. Doctors use endoscopy to treat the disease.

Recovery

The recovery period of hydrocephalus is relatively quick. The patient may leave the hospital only a few days after shunt or ETV neurosurgery. Complete recovery after treatment depends on the damage caused by hydrocephalus and the ability of the brain to heal. The rehabilitation process may help healing period positively. If the hole opened during shunt or ETV neurosurgery becomes blocked later, it may be necessary to re-operate.

Risks

Hydrocephalus treatment has a few risks related to it. In shunt surgery, infection or obstruction of brain shunt may occur, but they are quite rare. In ETV brain surgery, the hole opened by the doctors may be obstructed. Infection(smaller than in brain shunt union nerve damage and internal bleeding, which in extraordinary cases may be life-threatening may also be seen with a small likelihood. However, these risks are acceptable, given that hydrocephalus causes severe brain damage and even death.

Side Effects

The most important side effect is the necessity of continuous control of brain shunt or the hole created after ETV neurosurgery. Other than that, there are no significant side effects.

Success Rates

The success rate of brain shunt surgery is around 80%. Although this rate is even higher in ETV neurosurgery, not all patients can undergo this operation

Before And After

If the hydrocephalus treatment is successful, no complications are observed, and if surgery is performed in the early stage of the disease, it is highly possible to return to normal life. Rehabilitation in the beginning and regular checks in the future may be required. Nevertheless, life, similar to everyone has, is sustainable.

Faq

What is Standard Hydrocephalus Treatments?
Doctors may preferbrain shunt surgery and ETV neurosurgery. Brain shunt is a tube draining excessive fluid in the brain, while ETV neurosurgery is focused on creating a hole through which fluid will drip, leading to normal pressure in one's brain.

What is better: Brain Shunt or ETV Neurosurgery?  ETV neurosurgery is a better hydrocephalus treatment since it has a lower probability of infection as well as a higher success rate. However, not every patient can undergo this type of hydrocephalus treatment. Still, brain shunt is also an effective treatment for hydrocephalus.

Is Hydrocephalus Curable?
Hydrocephalus treatment does not cure the disease. For this reason, it is important to control the brain shunt or hole created through ETV neurosurgery – if they get blocked, a new hydrocephalus surgery is necessary.
